The purpose of this TASK is to give details of the etching solutions that can be used on titanium parts to prepare them for inspection.

Procedure
Put approximately 250 ml (8.45 fl.oz) of water into a Polyethylene or polypropylene tank or suitable material tank of more than 1 liter capacity.
Add, slowly and carefully, 200 ml (6.76 fl.oz) of CoMat 01-025 NITRIC ACID HNO3, TECHNICAL GRADE.
Add, slowly and carefully, 150 ml (5.07 fl.oz) of CoMat 01-027 HYDROFLUORIC ACID.
For CoMat 01-027 HYDROFLUORIC ACID (30 percent HF w/w):
Add, slowly and carefully, 110 ml (3.72 fl.oz) of CoMat 01-027A HYDROFLUORIC ACID.
For CoMat 01-027A HYDROFLUORIC ACID (40 percent HF w/w):
Add the applicable volume of hydrofluoric acid:
Stir to mix.
Add, slowly and carefully, water up to the 1 liter level of the container.
Make-up for 1 liter (34 fl.oz) of solution.
Put approximately 0.25 gal (0.9 l) of water into a Polyethylene or polypropylene tank or suitable material tank of more than 1 gal (3.8 l) capacity.
Add, slowly and carefully, 25.6 fl oz (757 ml) of CoMat 01-025 NITRIC ACID HNO3, TECHNICAL GRADE.

Nitric acid HNO3 (SG 1.42): 380 g/l to 420 g/l (50.7 oz.wt/gal to 56.1 oz.wt/gal).
Hydrofluoric acid HF: 1.5 g/l to 2.5 g/l (0.2 oz.wt/gal to 0.3 oz.wt/gal).
Composition of the solution.
Put approximately 200 ml (6.76 fl.oz) of water into a Polyethylene or polypropylene tank or suitable material tank of more than 1 liter (0.3 gal) capacity.
Add, slowly and carefully, 410 ml (13.9 fl.oz) of CoMat 01-025 NITRIC ACID HNO3, TECHNICAL GRADE.
Add, slowly and carefully, 6 ml (0.2 fl.oz) of CoMat 01-027 HYDROFLUORIC ACID.
For CoMat 01-027 HYDROFLUORIC ACID (30 percent HF w/w):
Add, slowly and carefully, 4 ml (0.1 fl.oz) of CoMat 01-027A HYDROFLUORIC ACID.

Ammonium Carbonate Solution
The subsequent list gives the neutralizing solutions that are applicable to TASK 70-11-08-300-503.
Composition of the solution.
Use a suitable glass or plastic container that is larger than the necessary solution volume.
Fill the container to approximately 50 percent of the necessary solution volume with clean water.
Add the necessary quantity of the applicable CoMat chemical to the container.
Stir to mix.
Add clean water to the container to the level of the necessary solution volume.
Make-up of solution.
