Introduction
This procedure specifies the method to local swab, or wipe clean, parts with solvent and the solvents permitted. This procedure and the solvents specified must not be used for immersion cleaning
SPM TASK 70-11-03-300-503 Procedure To Degrease Parts By Aqueous Cleaning is acceptable for general cleaning of parts where solvent wipe is specified for applications other than those where TASK 70-11-26-300-503 The Procedure To Locally Swab or Wipe Clean with Solvent Wiping is called out prior to adhesive bonding, painting or to remove residual tape residue. TASK 70-11-03-300-503 Procedure to Degrease Parts by Aqueous Cleaning is not acceptable for cleaning insulated heatshields.

WARNING
Procedure
These are solvents with a flash point lower than 140 deg F (60 deg C) and a vapor pressure greater than 45 mm Hg.
Low Flash Point, High Vapor Pressure Solvents
These are solvents with a flash point lower than 140 deg F (60 deg C) and a vapor pressure lower than or equal to 45 mm Hg.
Low Flash Point, Low Vapor Pressure Solvents
These are solvents with a flash point greater than 140 deg F (60 deg C) and a vapor pressure lower than or equal to 45 mm Hg.
High Flash Point, Low Vapor Pressure Solvents
The permitted solvents are divided into three types
SUBTASK 70-11-26-300-001 Solvent Types
Swab or wipe the part carefully with a clean CoMat 02-099 LINT-FREE CLOTH, or CoMat 02-349 BLEACHED CHEESECLOTH (NEW) unsized (that is, clean white, plastic-free and lint-free), moist with one of the applicable solvents. Make sure the surface is touched fully by the solvent.
SUBTASK 70-11-26-300-002 Method to Clean with a Solvent

CAUTION
DO NOT USE SIZED CHEESECLOTH BECAUSE IT CONTAINS RESIN BINDERS THAT CAN DISSOLVE IN SOLVENTS AND CAUSE CONTAMINATION OF THE BOND SURFACES AND PREVENT A GOOD ADHESIVE BOND.
CAUTION
DO NOT DIP (PUT MOMENTARILY) THE WIPING CLOTH IN THE SOLVENT CONTAINER BECAUSE THIS CAN CAUSE CONTAMINATION OF THE SOLVENT, WHICH CAN CAUSE CONTAMINATION OF THE COMPONENT SURFACES AND PREVENT A GOOD BOND WITH ADHESIVES OR PAINTS.
CAUTION
HALOGENATED HYDROCARBONS OR METHANOL SOLVENTS ARE NOT PERMITTED.
CAUTION
PART ASSEMBLIES THAT CONTAIN MATERIALS THAT ARE NOT METALLIC MATERIALS MUST NOT BE PUT FULLY IN THE SOLVENTS.Table 2. Low Flash Point, High Vapor Pressure Acetone (commercial)
