Procedure

CAUTION
THIS PROCEDURE MUST NOT BE USED ON LOW ALLOY STEEL OR MAGNESIUM PARTS.DO NOT LET WATER GET IN THE SOLUTIONS SPECIFIED IN STEP C. A VIOLENT REACTION CAN OCCUR.Clean the parts. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-11-14-300-503 or SPM TASK 70-11-03-300-503.
Vapor degrease the parts, refer to the SPM TASK 70-11-01-300-503, if the parts were cleaned by SPM TASK 70-11-14-300-503. Let the parts become cool before you soak them in the paint stripping solution.
NOTE
The solutions are di-phase and have a highly active acidic lower layer and an insoluble seal as a top layer.Make sure the parts are dry. Then soak them in the lower layer of the silicone epoxy paint stripping solutions: CoMat 01-271 PAINT STRIPPER or CoMat 01-272 PAINT STRIPPER for 30 minutes at room temperature.
1 percent ammonia solution (prepared from CoMat 01-086 AMMONIUM HYDROXIDE SOLN NH4OH) or CoMat 01-361 AMMONIUM CARBONATE (NH4)2CO3.
1 to 2 percent sodium carbonate solution (prepared from CoMat 01-030 SODIUM CARBONATE Na2CO3).
3.5 percent sodium metasilicate solution (prepared from CoMat 01-044 SODIUM METASILICATE Na2SiO3.5H2O).
To make the parts neutral soak them in one of the solutions that follow: (at a temperature of 59 to 77 deg F (15 to 25 deg C)).
NOTE
Do a check with pH paper to make sure the cold and hot water do not contain acid.Soak the parts in clean, cold water 59 to 95 deg F (15 to 35 deg C). Clean the parts with an air/water pressure gun. Soak the parts in hot water 149 to 203 deg F (65 to 95 deg C), then remove them and dry them with clean, dry compressed air.
