Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 70-11-60-100-001 Strip Paint Procedure

    2. WARNING

IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE OPERATOR TO OBTAIN AND OBSERVE THE MANUFACTURERS MATERIAL SAFETY DATA SHEETS FOR CONSUMABLE MATERIALS INFORMATION SUCH AS, HAZARDOUS INGREDIENTS, PHYSICAL/CHEMICAL CHARACTERISTICS, FIRE, EXPLOSION, REACTIVITY, HEALTH HAZARD DATA, PRECAUTIONS FOR SAFE HANDLING, USE AND CONTROL MEASURES AND ALSO TO TAKE LOCAL REGULATIONS INTO CONSIDERATION.

Degrease, if necessary, refer to SPM TASK 70-11-03-300-503.

      1. CAUTION

PARTS MUST BE DRY TO PREVENT CONTAMINATION OF THE STRIPPER WITH WATER. IF THE STRIPPING SOLUTION BECOMES CONTAMINATED WITH WATER IT WILL CORRODE THE PARTS.

        NOTE

Be sure parts are fully within the lower phase of the two-layered liquid.

        NOTE

Maintain the solutions to the manufacturer's instructions.

Put parts fully in one of the solutions that follow:

      2. UseCoMat 01-120K HOT PAINT STRIPPER at 176 - 230 deg F (80 - 110 deg C) for 1 to 4 hours.

      3. Use CoMat 01-120B HOT PAINT STRIPPER at 176 - 230 deg F (80 - 110 deg C) for 1 to 4 hours.

      4. Use CoMat 01-120 HOT PAINT STRIPPER at 158 - 176 deg F (70 - 80 deg C) for 1 to 2 hours.

      5. Use CoMat 01-120E HOT PAINT STRIPPER at 160 - 200 deg F (71 - 92 deg C) for 1 to 6 hours.

    3. CAUTION

DO NOT CONTAMINATE THE STRIPPING SOLUTION WITH WATER. IF THE STRIPPING SOLUTION BECOMES CONTAMINATED WITH WATER IT WILL CORRODE THE PARTS.

Drain the parts over the stripper tank for approximately one minute.

    4. NOTE

If the paint or varnish is only softened, a soft bristle brush, tampico brush, CoMat 05-125 ABRASIVE PAD, SILICON CARBIDE, ULTRA-FINE Scotch Brite, or CoMat 05-126 ABRASIVE PAD, ALUMINUM OXIDE, VERY FINE Scotch Brite may be used to remove the remaining coating.

      NOTE

Be sure to pressure flush the part again if you used a brush to remove any remaining coating.

Put parts fully in the cold water tank; then pressure spray rinse with cold water over the cold water tank.

    5. Put parts fully in hot water at 150 - 200 deg F (66 - 93 deg C) until the temperature of the part increases sufficiently to flash dry.

      NOTE

If the water on the part does not flash off when the part comes out of the hot water, then the time interval that the part stayed in the hot water was too short.
    6. Air dry; use air blast, if necessary.
