IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE OPERATOR TO OBTAIN AND OBSERVE THE MANUFACTURERS MATERIAL SAFETY DATA SHEETS FOR CONSUMABLE MATERIALS INFORMATION SUCH AS, HAZARDOUS INGREDIENTS, PHYSICAL/CHEMICAL CHARACTERISTICS, FIRE, EXPLOSION, REACTIVITY, HEALTH HAZARD DATA, PRECAUTIONS FOR SAFE HANDLING, USE AND CONTROL MEASURES AND ALSO TO TAKE LOCAL REGULATIONS INTO CONSIDERATION.

Procedure

1. SUBTASK 70-12-08-200-001 Control of the Abrasive Blast Compound Slurry

   1. Monitor the abrasive contents of the compound slurry at least two times a day.

   2. Collect a 100 ml or 500 ml sample of the compound slurry, in a cylinder with graduations, from the gun exit.

   3. Let the slurry sample sit for 15 to 30 minutes until the solids collect at the bottom of the cylinder.

   4. Measure the volume of solids and the total volume of the sample in the cylinder, and then calculate the volume percent of solids.

   5. Keep the wet abrasive compound contents at 20 to 30 percent by volume. Make a record of the results.

   6. Add 3 ml of CoMat 01-501 CORROSION INHIBITOR (WATER SOLUBLE) or CoMat 01-502 CORROSION INHIBITOR (WATER SOLUBLE) or CoMat 10-097 CORROSION INHIBITOR,(NON-NITRITE) or CoMat 10-099 CORROSION INHIBITOR,WATER SOLUBLE or CoMat 10-134 CORROSION INHIBITOR,(NON-NITRITE) for each pound of added CoMat 01-202 WET ABRASIVE COMPOUND or CoMat 01-204 WET ABRASIVE COMPOUND (6.6 ml of CoMat 01-501 CORROSION INHIBITOR (WATER SOLUBLE) or CoMat 01-502 CORROSION INHIBITOR (WATER SOLUBLE) or CoMat 10-097 CORROSION INHIBITOR,(NON-NITRITE) or CoMat 10-099 CORROSION INHIBITOR,WATER SOLUBLE or CoMat 10-134 CORROSION INHIBITOR,(NON-NITRITE) for each kilogram of added CoMat 01-202 WET ABRASIVE COMPOUND or CoMat 01-204 WET ABRASIVE COMPOUND). Corrosion inhibitor is not necessary if the steel components in the blasting equipment are made of stainless steel.

   7. Add 0.5 oz of CoMat 01-207 ANTISOLIDIFYING COMPOUND, for each 6 lb of added wet abrasive compound (5.2 gm of CoMat 01-207 ANTISOLIDIFYING COMPOUND for each kilogram of added wet abrasive compound).
