Description

  1. TASK 70-32-00-320-501 Machining - General Instructions

    1. General

      1. Machining is the procedure to get the necessary shape or finish by grinding, lathe turning, boring, reaming, broaching, milling, machine drilling, machine lapping, honing, sizing, machine polishing, machine buffing, machine cutting, electro-chemical machining (ECM), electro-discharge machining (EDM), roll forming, stamping and machine punching.

      2. Unless specified differently, the tolerances that follow will apply to all the repair finish machine operations:

        1. Break on sharp edges - 0.003 to 0.015 in. (0.08 to 0.38 mm).

        2. Corner fillets - 0.005 to 0.020 in. (0.13 to 0.51 mm) radius.

        3. Concentric diameters - less than 0.010 in. (0.25 mm) FIR.

    2. NOTE

When a dented, nicked or scratched, surface is made smooth again, as specified in the Engine Manual, it is not necessary to polish that surface; but the specified surface finish must be kept.
