WARNING

IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE OPERATOR TO OBTAIN AND OBSERVE THE MANUFACTURER'S MATERIALS SAFETY DATA SHEETS FOR CONSUMABLE MATERIALS. THESE CONTAIN INFORMATION SUCH AS, HAZARDOUS INGREDIENTS, PHYSICAL/CHEMICAL CHARACTERISTICS, FIRE, EXPLOSION, REACTIVITY, HEALTH HAZARD DATA, PRECAUTIONS FOR SAFE HANDLING, USE AND CONTROL MEASURES. IT IS ALSO THE OPERATOR'S RESPONSIBILITY TO TAKE LOCAL REGULATIONS INTO CONSIDERATION.

Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 70-33-91-300-001 General

    2. CAUTION

USE THIS PROCEDURE ONLY WHEN SPECIFIED BY THE ENGINE MANUAL.

      CAUTION

IT IS NECESSARY TO STRIP ANY NICKEL DEPOSITS OR ELECTROLESS NICKEL FROM A PART BEFORE YOU DO THIS STRIPPING PROCEDURE.

      CAUTION

DO NOT USE COPPER OR BRASS FIXTURES TO SUPPORT STATORS IN THE STRIPPING TANK. CONTAMINATION OF SOLUTION CODE 163 OR 164 WITH CADMIUM, COPPER, OR SILVER WILL DECREASE THE SPEED OF, OR FULLY STOP, THE STRIPPING ACTION.

      CAUTION

DO NOT USE THIS PROCEDURE TO REMOVE BRAZES THAT CONTAIN SILVER OR COPPER. ALL COMPONENTS PREVIOUSLY BRAZED WITH A FILLER METAL, OTHER THAN CoMat 03-250 BRAZING FILLER MATERIAL,Ni-BASE OR CoMat 03-148 BRAZING FILLER POWDER, MUST HAVE THESE BRAZING FILLER METALS FULLY REMOVED BEFORE REBRAZING WITH CoMat 03-250 BRAZING FILLER MATERIAL,Ni-BASE OR CoMat 03-148 BRAZING FILLER POWDER. IF THESE FILLER METALS ARE NOT FULLY REMOVED, UPON REBRAZING WITH CoMat 03-250 BRAZING FILLER MATERIAL,Ni-BASE OR CoMat 03-148 BRAZING FILLER POWDER, ANY REMAINING BRAZE MATERIAL WILL ALLOY WITH THE CoMat 03-250 BRAZING FILLER MATERIAL,Ni-BASE OR CoMat 03-148 BRAZING FILLER POWDER TO FORM AN ALLOY NOT EASILY REMOVED BY THE STRIPPING SOLUTIONS IN THIS PROCEDURE.

      NOTE

Pre-grinding to remove the bulk of the honeycomb can help in the total removal of the braze alloy.

This procedure removes CoMat 03-250 BRAZING FILLER MATERIAL,Ni-BASE from Type 410 stainless steel stator assemblies and CoMat 03-148 BRAZING FILLER POWDER from Inconel 625 and X-750 stator assemblies.

    1. SUBTASK 70-33-91-300-002 Remove Grease and Oil

    2. Remove grease and oil from the part; refer to the SPM TASK 70-11-03-300-503.

    1. SUBTASK 70-33-91-300-003 Apply a Mask

    1. SUBTASK 70-33-91-300-004 Put Part fully in Braze Strip Solution

      1. NOTE

The solution must have a cover during operation. A polypropylene cover or polypropylene balls that float on the solution surface are satisfactory covers.

        NOTE

Use the braze strip solution with ultrasonic equipment.

        NOTE

Facilities must be available to increase or decrease the temperature of the solution to keep the recommended operation temperature. Decrease the solution temperature when the bath is not in operation.

        NOTE

The quantity and composition of braze, the energy delivered to the stripping solution, the part geometry, the concentration of metal dissolved in the solution, and the operation temperature all cause the stripping solution time to decrease or increase. Periodic part relocation or rotation can be necessary to get the maximum ultrasonic effect for shielded surfaces.

Put the part fully in one of the ultrasonically agitated braze strip solutions as follows:

      2. Put the part fully in Solution Code 163 braze strip solution at 140 to 160 deg F (60 to 71 deg C) for the necessary time to remove the braze.

      3. Put the part fully in Solution Code 164 braze strip solution at 140 to 170 deg F (60 to 77 deg C) for the necessary time to remove the braze.

    1. SUBTASK 70-33-91-300-005 Drain and Flush the Part

    2. Drain the part fully over the strip tank. Make sure you turn the part to fully drain all cavities.

    3. Flush the part with clean water at ambient temperature. Make sure you flush all cavities and fully drain.

    1. SUBTASK 70-33-91-300-006 Examine the Part for full Removal of Braze

    2. Examine the part for full removal of the braze. If the braze is not fully removed, do again Step and Step, as necessary.

    1. SUBTASK 70-33-91-300-007 Flush and Dry the Part

    2. Flush the part with clean water at ambient temperature for 30 seconds and dry with a blast of compressed dry air.

    1. SUBTASK 70-33-91-300-008 Remove Masking

    2. Fully remove all masking from the part.
