Introduction
This procedure specifies the make-up of three Wyatts-type solutions and four Sulphamate-type solutions used to electroplate aluminum or aluminum alloy parts with nickel.
The plating solutions must be kept in chemical-resistant plastic lined containers fitted with a heating system, a continuous filter system and compressed air agitation.
The process tank for Watts-type plating solutions must be fitted with a heating system to keep an operation temperature of 105 to 114 deg F (40 to 45 deg C).
The process tank for sulfamate plating solutions must be fitted with a heating system to keep an operation temperature of 113 to 122 deg F (45 to 50 deg C).

Procedure
This solution is made up with CoMat 01-201 DISTILLED, DEIONIZED, DEMINERALIZED, OR REVERSE OSMOSIS (RO) WATER and stock chemicals at a strength of:
200 to 250 g/l of CoMat 01-080 NICKEL SULPHATE NiSO4.
30 to 50 g/l of CoMat 01-077 NICKEL CHLORIDE NiCl2+6H2O.
15 to 30 g/l of CoMat 01-015 BORIC ACID H3BO3.
The solution is acidic with a pH in the range 4.5 to 5.5.
Make sure the container is fully clean, then fill to approximately 70 percent of its operation volume with clean cold CoMat 01-201 DISTILLED, DEIONIZED, DEMINERALIZED, OR REVERSE OSMOSIS (RO) WATER.
Carefully add the necessary amounts of CoMat 01-080 NICKEL SULPHATE NiSO4, CoMat 01-077 NICKEL CHLORIDE NiCl2+6H2O, and CoMat 01-015 BORIC ACID H3BO3.
Fill the container to approximately 80 percent of its operation volume with clean CoMat 01-201 DISTILLED, DEIONIZED, DEMINERALIZED, OR REVERSE OSMOSIS (RO) WATER.
If the pH of the solution is greater than specified, add CoMat 01-050 SULFURIC ACID H2SO4 to reduce the pH to the specified range.
If the pH of the solution is less than specified, add CoMat 01-086 AMMONIUM HYDROXIDE SOLN NH4OH to increase the pH to the specified range.
Do a check of the pH of the solution.
If the solution has organic chemical contamination add 1 ml/l of CoMat 01-035 HYDROGEN PEROXIDE H2O2 to the solution.
Fill the container to the operation volume with clean CoMat 01-201 DISTILLED, DEIONIZED, DEMINERALIZED, OR REVERSE OSMOSIS (RO) WATER.
For the solution control procedure, refer to the SPM TASK 70-33-92-200-502, SUBTASK 70-33-92-160-001.
