Description
TASK 70-34-00-340-501 Plasma And Flame Spraying - General Information
General
This general instruction gives the procedures used to apply metal alloy, ceramic, cermet or composite coatings to metal parts with heat (that is, plasma and flame spraying).
In general, such coatings can be applied to most metal materials, but not magnesium or copper alloys. These materials must not be sprayed, unless specified.
The strength of a part will not be increased, when its thickness is increased, by such a coating (that is, the effect of the increased thickness will stay, as that of the base material). Also, a decrease in the strength of the base material is possible; which is important to parts that rotate and other highly stressed parts.
Sprayed aluminum parts must not be anodized, unless specified differently.
