Scope

To remove broken bolts and/or studs by mechanical removal methods, unless specified differently by the Engine Manual.

Equipment

Use a commercially available bolt/stud extraction tool.

Procedure

    1. Procedure

    2. Drill a hole into the end of the broken bolt and/or stud. Refer to the tool manufacturer's instructions for the correct size of the drill.

    3. Put the extraction tool into the drilled hole and lock into position.

    4. Turn the extraction tool in a counterclockwise direction to remove the broken bolt or stud.

    5. Tap the threads, if necessary, to clean or chase the threads.

    6. Examine the threads for damage or an oversize condition.
