Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 70-36-01-360-001 The Procedure to Apply Two Part Cold Curing Silicone Rubber

    2. This compound is for use where the cured rubber will be free to become larger in all directions. It is usually used when no holes or recesses to keep the compound in position are available. Use a small mould around the area where the compound is to go to help keep the compound in position. This compound must not be used in a position where the engine temperature will be more than 572 deg F (300 deg C).

      1. NOTE

        1. If the compound is to be used in a position where the temperature will not be more than 302 deg F (150 deg C) then more curing agent can be used. The quantity of curing agent can be increased to 1 part by weight to decrease the cure time.

        2. The time during which the compound can be used after it is mixed will change with the quantity of curing agent used.

          1.0 percent curing agent - 20 to 30 minutes.

          0.1 percent curing agent - 2 to 4 hours.

      2. Mix 100 parts by weight of the silicone compound with 0.2 to 0.3 parts by weight of the curing agent.

    3. Mix the rubber compound and curing agent. Make sure the two materials are fully mixed.

    4. Apply the mixed CoMat 08-001 TWO-PART COLD CURING SILICONE RUBBER compound to the applicable area.

      1. Cure the compound for the time specified in the applicable Engine Manual. The cure times as follows are given as an aid only.

        1. If the compound is used in a position where the temperature will not be more than 302 deg F (150 deg C).

        2. Cure at 68 deg F (20 deg C) for between 16 to 24 hours.

        1. If the compound is used in a position where the temperature will be between 302 and 482 deg F (150 to 250 deg C).

        2. Cure at 68 deg F (20 deg C) for 24 hours then 12 to 24 hours at 302 deg F (150 deg C). Then cure at 482 deg F (250 deg C) for between 4 to 6 hours.

        1. If the compound is used in a position where the temperature will be between 482 and 572 deg F (250 to 300 deg C).

        2. Cure at 68 deg F (20 deg C) for 24 hours then 12 to 24 hours at 302 deg F (150 deg C). Then cure at 527 deg F (275 deg C) for between 4 to 6 hours.

    1. SUBTASK 70-36-01-360-002 The Procedure to Apply the Sealing Compound Mixed with the Catalyst

    2. This compound is for use where the component has a hole to hold the compound in position. The compound must be free to become larger in one direction. This compound must not be used in a position on the engine where the temperature will be more than 482 deg F (250 deg C).

      1. NOTE

The time during which the compound can be used after it is mixed will change with the quantity of catalyst used. The change in times for different mixes is given as follows:

        Make-up of the compound.

        1. For a position on the engine where the temperature will not be more than 302 deg F (150 deg C).

        2. Mixture 1.

Mix 96 percent by weight of CoMat 08-002 SEALING COMPOUND with 4 percent by weight of CoMat 08-003 CATALYST. The time during which this compound can be used is approximately 20 to 30 minutes at 68 deg F (20 deg C).

        3. Mixture 2.

Mix 97 percent by weight of CoMat 08-002 SEALING COMPOUND with 3 percent by weight of CoMat 08-003 CATALYST. The time during which this compound can be used is approximately 30 to 40 minutes at 68 deg F (20 deg C).

        4. Mixture 3.

Mix 98 percent by weight of CoMat 08-002 SEALING COMPOUND with 2 percent by weight of CoMat 08-003 CATALYST. The time during which this compound can be used is approximately 40 to 60 minutes at 68 deg F (20 deg C).

        5. Mixture 4.

Mix 99 percent by weight of CoMat 08-002 SEALING COMPOUND with 1 percent by weight of CoMat 08-003 CATALYST. The time during which this compound can be used is approximately 2 to 3 hours at 68 deg F (20 deg C).

        1. For a position on the engine where the temperature will be between 302 and 482 deg F (150 to 250 deg C).

        2. Mix 99 percent by weight of CoMat 08-002 SEALING COMPOUND with 1 percent by weight of CoMat 08-003 CATALYST.

    3. Mix the applicable quantity of CoMat 08-002 SEALING COMPOUND with CoMat 08-003 CATALYST. Make sure that the two materials are fully mixed.

    4. Apply the mixed compound to the applicable area.

      1. Cure the compound for the time specified in the applicable Engine Manual. The cure times as follows are given as an aid only.

        1. If the compound is used in a position where the temperature will be not more than 302 deg F (150 deg C).

        2. Mixture 1, 2 or 3 as given in step B, cure for 24 hours at 68 deg F (20 deg C).

        3. Mixture 4 as given in step B, cure for between 24 to 48 hours at 68 deg F (20 deg C).

        1. If the compound is used in a position where the temperature will be between 302 and 482 deg F (150 to 250 deg C).

        2. Cure for a minimum of 24 hours at 68 deg F (20 deg C) then 12 to 24 hours at 302 deg F (150 deg C). Then cure for between 4 to 6 hours at 392 deg F (200 deg C).
