Safety Precautions

General

This TASK gives the procedure to mould and the quality necessary for CoMat 08-036 SILICONE RUBBER COMPOUND.

The silicone rubber compound is used for vibration damping of assemblies and is applied at temperatures of up to 350 deg F (176 deg C).

The compound must only be used when it is specified in the Engine Manual.

NOTE

To identify the consumable materials refer to the PCI.

Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 70-36-04-360-001 Prepare the Parts

    2. NOTE

      The dry blasting must only be done when it is specified in the Engine Manual.

      Dry abrasive blast in accordance with the Engine Manual when necessary.

    3. Clean the moulding surfaces with a clean cloth made moist with CoMat 01-076 METHYL ETHYL KETONE.

    4. Dry the moulding surfaces by air for a minimum of 15 minutes.

    5. NOTE

      Primer thickness: Pale pink color.

      Within eight hours after cleaning, apply a thin layer of CoMat 08-032 PRIMER to the moulding surfaces with a clean cloth.

    6. Dry at room temperature for a minimum of 2 hours and a maximum of 24 hours at moisture level equivalent to 20 - 90 percent relative humidity at 77 deg F (25 deg C).

    1. SUBTASK 70-36-04-360-002 Make-up of CoMat 08-036 Silicone Rubber Compound

    2. Mix 9.5 to 10.5 parts by weight of the base material with 0.8 to 1.2 parts by weight of the curing agent in 8 to 10 minutes at 70 to 80 deg F (21 to 27 deg C) until the material is a constant colour.

    3. Remove all the air in a vacuum of 1 to 5 mm of mercury for 5 to 10 minutes.

    1. SUBTASK 70-36-04-360-003 Apply and Cure the Silicone Rubber Compounds

    2. Apply CoMat 08-036 SILICONE RUBBER COMPOUND into the mould areas using air pressure type dispenser or equivalent.

    3. NOTE

      More detailed instructions are given in the Engine Manual.

      Cure the compound at room temperature for 16 hours followed by it being kept at 290 to 310 deg F (143 to 154 deg C) for one hour with the moulding fixture installed.

    1. SUBTASK 70-36-04-220-001 Examine the Moulded Areas

    2. Examine the moulded areas to make sure they are free from defects such as voids, recesses, cracks, bubbles, foreign inclusions, peeling and discoloration. More inspection checks and the dimension checks must be done when specified in the Engine Manual.
