Common Information
TASK 70-36-07-360-501Controlled-Environment Rooms
General
All operations to apply and/or bond adhesives, fillers or sealers, and all operations to apply the primers for adhesives, fillers, or sealers, must be done in controlled-condition rooms, identified as Room-A, or Room-B, unless specified differently.
Room-A must be used only to bond non-silicone materials (that is, materials that do not contain silicone). Uncured silicone materials are not permitted in Room-A.
Room-B must be used only to bond silicone materials.
Room-A and Room-B must not be physically connected. Corridors, doors and ventilation ducts, that connect Room-A to Room-B are not permitted.
Persons that do work in Room A must wear protective clothing (for example, laboratory suits and disposable shoe covers). Used protective clothing from areas other than Room-A must not go into Room-A..
NOTE
Changes to Room A or Room B identification, must be approved by the International Aero Engines Materials Control Laboratory.

WARNING
THE ADHESIVES, PRIMERS, SOLVENTS, AND SURFACE TREATMENT MATERIALS, SPECIFIED IN THIS PROCEDURE, CAN CONTAIN FLAMMABLE AND/OR POISONOUS COMPONENTS. ALWAYS KEEP LIQUID ADHESIVES, PRIMERS, AND SOLVENTS AWAY FROM OPEN FIRES AND DO NOT BREATHE THE DUST OR VAPORS. ALWAYS WEAR PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT AND DO NOT LET THE MATERIALS TOUCH THE EYES OR SKIN. MIX AND APPLY THE ADHESIVES, FILLERS OR SEALERS, AND PRIMERS IN AN AREA THAT IS OPEN TO AIR.
Procedure
SUBTASK 70-36-07-360-001 Room-A
The room must be fully closed and must have doors that close automatically. All doors and other openings must be kept closed when not in use.
The room must be kept at a temperature of 80 deg F (27 deg C) maximum.
The room must be kept at a relative humidity of 60 percent maximum.
The floor must be sealed or have a non-flake cover (for example, paint, plastic or vinyl tiles) that is easy to clean.
The ceiling and walls must be sealed or have a non-flake, smooth-surface cover that is easy to clean.
All air into the room, which includes air supplied to pressure lines, must be filtered air.
The filters used must be free from silicones and other surface treatments (for example, fluorocarbons or urea), which can decrease the strength of the bond.
The air in the room must be kept at a positive pressure to prevent the access of non-filtered air through doors and other openings.
The filters must be of a type that can remove 100 percent of unwanted material, that is a minimum of 3 microns, unless specified differently.
The filters must be replaced after a maximum time of three weeks.
The floors must be cleaned each day. Use one of the subsequent items:
Epoxy resin that is almost tacky.
NOTE
The exhaust air of the vacuum cleaner must go to the outside area or go through a filter of the same specification as the room air supply.
The walls must be cleaned, as specified in E. (1) above, at least one time each 30 days.
The ceiling must be examined for contamination each 30 days, and cleaned when necessary; but it must be cleaned at intervals of six months.
Shelves, material storage racks and carts, and work benches other than those specified in E. (4) above must be cleaned with a moist cloth, when necessary; but they must be at intervals of two weeks.
Procedures and operations that cause contamination (for example, dust, fumes, spray, or unwanted material) must not be permitted in the area.
Internal combustion engines must not be used in the area.
You must not eat or smoke in the area.
The ovens in the room must have openings to release explosive gases caused when adhesives are cured. These openings must be more than 20 feet (6 meters) from the air supply entrance.
Materials that can cause damage to adhesives must not be kept or used in the controlled-environment room. These materials include:
Non-cured mold release compounds.
Aerosol or powdered lubricants.
Before entry into the room, all bonding equipment, fixtures, tools and materials must be clean and free from contamination. Refer to steps F. (1) above and F. (2) (a) below.
Lubricated equipment, for example, fork-lift trucks and hoists, which can be used in the room must not cause contamination of clean parts, adhesives, fillers, primers, and sealants.
All bonding equipment, fixtures and tools, which stay in the room, must be kept in a clean condition.
Clean, solvent-resistant gloves must be worn when you clean with solvents, or touch clean parts and assemblies. They must also be worn during bonding, filling, priming, and sealing procedures.
Do not touch surfaces to be bonded.
SUBTASK 70-36-07-360-002Room-B
Room-B must have the same specification as Room A; but it must be kept at a minimum relative humidity of 50 percent, at 75 deg F (24 Deg C), or equal moisture level.
Protective clothing is not necessary.
