Procedure
NOTE
Use of Stress-Relief Cycle 18 for nickel base airfoil materials must be followed by the alloy precipitation heat treatment sometime during the repair process.NOTE
It is not permitted to use hydrogen when you heat treat single crystal alloys (such as, IAE 1480 and IAE 1484).NOTE
Part can be held at 1950 to 2000 deg F (1066 to 1093 deg C) for seven minutes minimum when permitted by the Engine Manual.Increase the temperature of the part to 1950 to 2000 deg F (1066 to 1093 deg C). Hold at temperature for 30 minutes minimum to four hours in CoMat 03-138 HYDROGEN GAS (PROTECTIVE ATMOSPHERE), a vacuum, or CoMat 03-010 ARGON GAS or CoMat 03-117 ARGON GAS or CoMat 03-118 ARGON GAS.
For a vacuum or argon, decrease the temperature of the part to below 500 deg F (260 deg C) in dry CoMat 03-010 ARGON GAS, CoMat 03-117 ARGON GAS or CoMat 03-118 ARGON GAS. The remaining decrease in temperature can be in an open atmosphere.
Decrease the temperature of the part at a rate of 35 deg F (19 deg C) for every minute or faster to below 1600 deg F (871 deg C). Any convenient rate can be used from below 1600 deg F (871 deg C) to room temperature. Atmosphere requirements are as follows:
