IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE OPERATOR TO OBTAIN AND OBSERVE THE MANUFACTURER'S MATERIAL SAFETY DATA SHEETS FOR CONSUMABLE MATERIALS INFORMATION SUCH AS, HAZARDOUS INGREDIENTS, PHYSICAL/CHEMICAL CHARACTERISTICS, FIRE, EXPLOSION, REACTIVITY, HEALTH HAZARD DATA, PRECAUTIONS FOR SAFE HANDLING, USE AND CONTROL MEASURES AND ALSO TO TAKE LOCAL REGULATIONS INTO CONSIDERATION.

Procedure

1. SUBTASK 70-53-01-620-002 Preservation of Bearings

   1. 

      CAUTION

      SECURE BEARINGS THAT HAVE PARTS THAT COULD DISASSEMBLE; USE CoMat 06-085 CORD, Nonwicking, OR CoMat 06-086 TIES, OR PLASTIC STRAPS.

      NOTE

      This procedure is for preservation of bearings after cleaning or inspection. For bearings requiring cleaning refer to the SPM TASK 70-11-22-300-503.

      Make sure the bearings are clean.

      NOTE

      CoMat 10-125 LUBRICATING AND PRESERVATION OIL Lubricating and preservation oil is a long-term preservation oil that is compatible with synthetic engine oil, so it does not have to be removed before the installation of bearings into the engine.

      CoMat 10-125 LUBRICATING AND PRESERVATION OIL Lubricating and preservation oil is unlike some of the thick preservation oils of the past. The removal of these oils is necessary to prevent foam and black oil and this removal is a longer procedure.

   2. Put the bearings fully into CoMat 10-022 PRESERVATIVE OIL or CoMat 10-125 LUBRICATING AND PRESERVATION OIL for at least one minute. For assembled bearings turn the bearing to make sure the preservation oil gets on all the surfaces and apply a second coating by a short dip. Keep mated parts in matched sets.

      NOTE

      Both units of a duplex bearing must be kept together during each of the methods that follows:

   3. Protect the bearing from moisture by one of the methods that follow:

      1. Polyethylene bag method.

         1. Put the bearing in a CoMat 02-095 POLYETHYLENE PREFORMEDBAGS pre-formed or a bag made from CoMat 12-002 POLYETHYLENE SHEET.

         2. Seal the bag with heat, or tape, or ties, or zip lock.

         3. Put the wrapped bearing in bubble wrap or put it in a container.

      2. Polyethylene sheet method.

         1. Put the bearing between two CoMat 12-002 POLYETHYLENE SHEETs.

         2. Heat seal the two polyethylene sheets.

         3. Put the sealed bearing in bubble wrap or in a container.

      3. Barrier material method.

      4. 1. Not heat-sealable barrier material.

            1. Put the bearing in CoMat 02-093 BARRIER MATERIAL flexible, greaseproof, waterproof barrier material with the glossy side against the bearing.

            2. Put the wrapped bearing in bubble wrap or in a container.

         2. Heat-sealable barrier material.

            1. Put the bearing in a heat-sealable, flexible, greaseproof, water/vaporproof barrier material bag or between two heat-sealable, flexible, greaseproof, water/vaporproof barrier material sheets (CoMat 12-039 BARRIER MATERIAL-WATER/VAPOR PROOF,GREASE PROOF, HEAT SEALABLE or CoMat 01-233 BARRIER MATERIAL).

            2. Heat seal the bag or sheets. Alternatively, if the bearing has been put in a bag, seal the bag with tape, or ties, or zip lock.

            3. Put the sealed bearing in bubble wrap or in a container.

      5. If the bearings are not bubble wrapped, do as follows:

   4. NOTE

      These filler pieces, when correctly positioned, will prevent the bearings from jamming together during shipment.

      Put fiberboard pads or plastic dividers between bagged bearings before you put the bearings into a container and between bearings.

   5. Write the bearing part number and serial number on a label; then, attach the label to each package.

3. SUBTASK 70-53-01-620-002-B01 Preservation of Bearings for More Than Six Week - Deleted
