Preliminary Requirements

Procedure

1. SUBTASK 71-00-00-560-051-001 Install the Turbine Exhaust Case (TEC) and the Intermediate Case Lift Adapters and the Lifting Beam

   NOTE

   If the front and rear mounts are installed on the engine it is not necessary to do this SUBTASK.

   1. Refer to Figure, Figure and Figure.

   2. Install IAE 1F10041 TEC lift adapter 1 off.

      1. Remove the safety pins, the bushes and the pins from the ends of the two links.

      2. Put the TEC lift adapter in to position between the TEC mount lugs. Use IAE 1N20015 Aft engine mount sling 1 off, to lift the TEC lift adapter.

      3. Install one of the pins.

         1. Put the pin through the rear TEC mount flange, the link and the front TEC mount flange.

      4. Install the other pin.

         1. Do step (3)(a) again.

      5. Put the two bushes on to the two pins and push them into the front TEC mount flange.

      6. Safety the two pins and the two bushes with the two safety pins.

      7. Remove the sling from the TEC lift adapter and the hoist.

   3. Install IAE 1J12007 Intermediate case lift adapter 1 off.

      1. Put the intermediate case lift adapter into position on the engine use IAE 1N20014 Forward engine mount sling 1 off to lift intermediate case lift adapter.

      2. NOTE

         The bolts that have been used in this step can have their heads painted red. The bolts can then stay with the intermediate case lift adapter for subsequent use.

         Attach the IAE 1J12007 Intermediate case lift adapter 1 off to the front mount with the six bolts (121203-7H7). Tighten the bolts to secure the intermediate case lift adapter.

      3. Adjust the length of the two turnbuckles until the holes can be aligned with the holes in the two thrust mount brackets.

      4. Attach the two turnbuckles to the two thrust mount brackets with the two tool bolts and the two tool nuts. Tighten the nuts to secure the intermediate case lift adapter.

      5. Remove the sling from the intermediate case lift adapter and the hoist.

   4. Attach IAE 1F10260 Lifting beam 1 off, to the two lift adapters.

      1. Use a suitable spanner on the adjuster to move the lift eye into position, to lift the lifting beam.

      2. Attach a hoist to the lift eye.

      3. Lift the lifting beam and put it in position over the engine.

      4. Carefully lower the lifting beam on to the two lift adapters. At the same time make sure that the dowels on each lift adapter engage in the correct holes in the lifting beam.

      5. Attach the lifting beam to the TEC lift adapter with the four tool bolts, the eight tool washers and the four tool nuts. Tighten the four tool nuts to secure the lifting beam to the TEC lift adapter.

      6. Attach the lifting beam to the intermediate case lift adapter with the five tool bolts, the ten tool washers and the five tool nuts. Tighten the five tool nuts to secure the lifting beam to the intermediate case lift adapter.

2. SUBTASK 71-00-00-560-051-002 Install the Lifting Beam on to the Engine

   1. Refer to Figure.

   2. Attach IAE 1F10260 Lifting beam 1 off, to the front and rear mounts.

      1. Use a suitable spanner on the adjuster to move the lift eye into position to lift the lifting beam.

      2. Attach a hoist to the lift eye.

      3. Lift the lifting beam and put it in position over the engine.

      4. Carefully lower the lifting beam on to the front and rear mounts. At the same time make sure that the dowels on the front and rear mount engage in the correct holes in the lifting beam.

      5. NOTE

         The bolts that have been used in this step can have their heads painted red. The bolts can then remain with the lifting beam for subsequent use.

         Attach the lifting beam to the rear mount with four the bolts (83769H16-14) and the four washers (VN936NP16C). Tighten the bolts to secure the lifting beam.

      6. NOTE

         The bolts that have been used in this step can have their heads painted red. The bolts can then remain with the lifting beam for subsequent use.

         The nuts that have been used in this step can be painted red. The nuts can then remain with the lifting beam for subsequent use.

         Attach the lifting beam to the front mount with the four bolts (83769H14-17), the four washers (VN936NP14C) and the four nuts (VN401B144). Tighten the bolts to secure the lifting beam.

3. SUBTASK 71-00-00-560-051-003 Install the Adjustable Sling on to the Engine

   1. Refer to Figure and Figure.

   2. Attach IAE 1F10363 Adjustable sling 1 off, to the front and rear mounts.

      1. Use an applicable spanner on the adjuster to move the lift eye into position to lift the adjustable sling.

      2. Attach a hoist to the lift eye.

      3. Lift the adjustable sling and put it in position on the engine.

      4. Carefully lower the adjustable sling on to the front and rear mounts. At the same time make sure that the attachment points on the front and rear mount engage in the correct holes in the adaptor lift of adjustable sling.

      5. Attach the adjustable sling to the rear mounts with the two pins. Lock the pins with hair pin cotter to safety the adjustable sling.

      6. Attach the adjustable sling to the front mounts with the two pins. Lock the pins with hair pin cotter to safety the adjustable sling.

4. SUBTASK 71-00-00-560-052 Remove the Engine From the Transportation Stand or the Cradle

   1. Refer to Figure and Figure.

   2. Use an suitable spanner on the adjuster (part of IAE 1F10260 Lifting beam 1 off or IAE 1F10363 Adjustable sling 1 off), to move the lift eye to the center of gravity (C of G) for the engine configuration that you have.

   3. NOTE

      Small adjustment is necessary to get the correct C of G for the assembly.

      Adjust the hoist so that it takes the weight of the engine.

   4. Remove the two pins that attach the engine to the two rear support posts.

      1. Remove the safety bolts.

      2. Remove the pins.

   5. Loosen the nuts on the swing bolts and move the swing bolts away. Move the collar away.

   6. Lift the engine approximately two feet.

   7. Remove the two front support brackets from the engine.

      1. Remove the four nuts and the four bolts, that attach one of the two front support brackets to the engine.

      2. Remove the front support brackets.

      3. Do steps G(1) and G(2) again for the other front support bracket.

   8. Put the two front support brackets back into the two collars.

      1. Put one of the two front support brackets in position in one of the two collars.

      2. Close the collar.

      3. Put the swing bolts in to position and lightly tighten the nuts.

      4. Do steps H(1), H(2) and H(3) again for the other front support bracket.

5. SUBTASK 71-00-00-560-053 Attach the Trunnions and the Lift Bracket to the LP Compressor/Intermediate Case

   1. Refer to Figure.

   2. Attach IAE 1J12008 Trunnion 2 off to IAE 1J12000 Lift bracket 2 off. Secure them with the eight trunnion bolts and the eight trunnion washers.

   3. Attach the trunnion/lift bracket assemblies on to the LP compressor/intermediate case module between flange FE and FD. Secure with the four bolts and the four nuts.

6. SUBTASK 71-00-00-560-054 Attach the Turbine Exhaust Case (TEC) Trunnion Bracket to the LP Turbine Module

   1. Refer to Figure.

   2. Use a suitable sling to put IAE 1F10043 TEC trunnion bracket 1 off into position around the TEC.

   3. Put the two pins through the two trunnion bracket lugs and the two engine bosses. Safety with the two safety pins.

7. SUBTASK 71-00-00-560-055 Put the Engine on to the Support Pedestals

   1. Refer to Figure.

   2. Lift the engine until it is clear of the transportation stand or cradle.

   3. Install the engine on to IAE 1F10028 Support Pedestal 2 off, and IAE 1F10085 Adjustable support pedestal 2 off.

      1. Make sure that the trunnion supports, (part of the support pedestal) are at their highest position.

      2. Adjust the height of the engine so the trunnions are approximately one foot higher than the trunnion supports (part of the support pedestals).

      3. Put the support posts into position adjacent to the trunnions on the LP compressor/intermediate case module.

      4. NOTE

         Keep the engine horizontal.

         Carefully lower the engine until the LP compressor/intermediate case module trunnions, are engaged in the trunnion supports.

      5. Make sure that the trunnion supports (part of the adjustable support pedestal) are in their highest position.

      6. Turn the adjusting ring to put the adjustable support post into its lowest position.

      7. Put the adjustable support pedestal into position adjacent to the trunnions on the turbine exhaust case.

      8. Turn the adjusting rings to move the trunnion supports (part of the adjustable support pedestal) upwards, until the trunnions are engaged in the trunnion supports.

      9. Lower the hoist until the support pedestals and adjustable support pedestals have got the weight of the engine.

      10. Make sure that the engine is in a horizontal position. If necessary use the adjustable support pedestals to put the engine in a horizontal position.

8. SUBTASK 71-00-00-560-056-001 Remove the Lifting Beam from the Engine

   1. Refer to Figure.

   2. Remove the nuts, the bolts and the washers that attach the lifting beam to the front mount.

   3. Remove the nuts, the bolts and the washers that attach the lifting beam to the rear mount.

   4. Remove the lifting beam from the engine and put it on a suitable surface.

9. SUBTASK 71-00-00-560-056-002 Remove the Lifting Beam, the Intermediate Case, the Turbine Exhaust Case (TEC) Lift Adapters and the Lifting Beam

   NOTE

   If the front and rear mounts are installed on the engine it is not necessary to do this SUBTASK.

   1. Refer to Figure, Figure and Figure.

   2. Remove the nuts, the bolts and the washers that attach the lifting beam to the intermediate case lift adapter.

   3. Remove the nuts, the bolts and the washers that attach the lifting beam to the TEC lift adapter.

   4. Remove the lifting beam from the engine and put it on to a suitable surface.

   5. Replace the bolts, the washers and the nuts in to the TEC and intermediate case adapters.

   6. Remove the intermediate case lift adapter.

      1. Attach IAE 1N20014 Forward engine mount sling 1 off to a hoist and the intermediate case lift adapter.

      2. Adjust the hoist to hold the weight of the intermediate case lift adapter.

      3. Remove the nuts and the bolts that attach the two turnbuckles to the two forward mount thrust brackets.

      4. Remove the six bolts that attach the intermediate case lift adapter.

      5. Remove the intermediate case lift adapter from the engine and put it on to a suitable surface.

      6. Remove the sling from the intermediate case lift adapter and the hoist. Put the sling on a suitable surface.

   7. Remove the TEC lift adapter.

      1. Attach IAE 1N20015 Aft engine mount sling 1 off, to a hoist and the TEC lift adapter.

      2. Adjust the hoist to hold the weight of the TEC lift adapter.

      3. Remove the safety pins, the bushes and the pins that attach the TEC lift adapter to the TEC mount lugs.

      4. Remove the TEC lift adapter from the engine and put it on a suitable surface.

      5. Remove the sling from the TEC lift adapter and the hoist and put it on a suitable surface.

10. SUBTASK 71-00-00-560-056-003 Remove the Adjustable Sling from the Engine

    1. Refer to Figure and Figure.

    2. Remove the hair pin cotter and remove the pins that attach the adjustable sling to the front mounts.

    3. Remove the hair pin cotter and remove the pins that attach the adjustable sling to the rear mounts.

    4. Remove the adjustable sling from the engine and put it on a correct surface.
