TASK 71-21-11-420-001 Install The Front Mount Support Assembly And Mount Brackets

General

This TASK gives the procedure to install the Forward Mount Support.

Fig/item numbers in parentheses in the procedure agree with those used in the IPC. Only the primary Fig/item numbers are used. For the service bulletin alpha variants refer to the IPC.

For standard torque data and procedures, refer to the SPM TASK 70-41-00-400-501.

Lubricate all threads and mating faces of nuts and bolts with CoMat 10-077 APPROVED ENGINE OILS, unless other lubricants are referred to in the procedure.

The number for each radial location must be identified in a clockwise direction. These start at the engine top position, which is the No. 1 strut position of the fan frame when you look from the rear of the engine, unless stated differently in the procedure.

NOTE

To identify the consumable materials refer to the PCI.

NOTE

Special tools are identified in the procedure by the tool primary number.

Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 71-21-11-420-051-A00 V2500-A1: Install the No. 2 Strut Thrust Mount Bracket (01-500) and the No. 10 Strut Thrust Mount Bracket (01-700) (Pre SBE 72-0150)

    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. Engage the aligning pin hole in each mount bracket with the aligning pin on each mounting pad of the struts.

    4. Hold the mount brackets on each strut of the fan frame while you install the bolts (01-520 and 01-720). Attach the nuts (01-510 and 01-710) to the bolts.

    5. Torque the bolts to 290 to 370 lbf.in (33.00 to 42.00 Nm).

    1. SUBTASK 71-21-11-420-051-B00 V2500-A1: Install the No. 2 Strut Thrust Mount Bracket (01-500) and the No. 10 Strut Thrust Mount Bracket (01-700) (SBE 72-0150)

    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. Engage the aligning pin hole in each mount bracket with the aligning pin on each mounting pad of the struts.

    4. Hold the mount brrackets on each strut of the fan frame while you install the bolts (01-520 and 01-720). Attach the nuts (01-510 and 01-710) to the bolts.

    5. Torque the bolts to 450 to 525 lbf.in (51.00 to 59.00 Nm).

    1. SUBTASK 71-21-11-420-051-C00 V2500-A5: Install the No. 2 Strut Thrust Mount Bracket (01-500) and the No. 10 Strut Thrust Mount Bracket (01-700)

    5. Torque the bolts to 450 to 525 lbf.in. (51.00 to 59.00 Nm).

    1. SUBTASK 71-21-11-420-052 Install the Mount Tube Outer Race Assembly (01-100) on to the Front Engine Mount Tube (01-150)

    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. Lubricate the spherical bearing surface of the mount tube with CoMat 10-077 APPROVED ENGINE OILS.

      1. NOTE

The mount tube upper outer race and lower outer race are a serialized set that must be kept together as a set in each engine build.

Install the upper and the lower outer races on to the spherical bearing of the mount tube.

      2. NOTE

Only the lower outer race has a scalloped opening.

Install the lower outer race on to the lower face of the spherical bearing surface.

      3. Install the upper outer race on to the upper face of the spherical bearing surface.

    4. Engage the four aligning pin holes on the lower outer race to the four aligning pins on the upper outer race.

    1. SUBTASK 71-21-11-220-051 Examine the Clearance between the Outer Races

    2. Examine the clearance between the two mating surfaces. No clearances are permitted.

    1. SUBTASK 71-21-11-420-053 Install the Front Engine Mount Tube and the Mount Tube Outer Race Assembly

    2. Refer to Figure and Figure.

    3. Put the IAE 1J12127 0AM53 heater 1 off into the bearing bore and attach it on to the No. 1 strut pad. Attach the heater to one of the eight studs on the pad with the clip of the heater.

    4. Connect the IAE 6F10027 Heater control unit 1 off to the local heater.

    5. Increase the temperature to approximately 212 deg F (100 deg C).

    6. NOTE

Do this operation while you increase the temperature to the specified value with the heater at operation C.

Freeze the mount tube outer race assembly with dry ice for 30 minutes.

    7. WARNING

DO NOT TOUCH THE HOT SURFACE OF THE LOCAL HEATER.

      CAUTION

HOLD THE TWO HALVES OF THE OUTER RACE ASSEMBLY BY HAND TO KEEP THEM IN POSITION DURING THEIR INSTALLATION.

Remove the heater and install the mount tube and mount tube outer race assembly into the bore as quickly as possible. Make sure that the TOP mark on the mount tube is put at the highest position on the mount tube.

    8. Attach the front engine mount tube and the mount tube outer race assembly to the No. 1 strut pad with the eight nuts (01-110).

    9. Torque the nuts to 290 to 370 lbf.in (33.00 to 42.00 Nm).
