General

Lace the wire bundles together tightly. All the breakouts from the harnesses must be in the same plane as the bundle center line (Refer to Figure). Keep the wires in the harness as straight as possible and make sure that the wires are not twisted. When the harness is more than 1.5 in. (38.1 mm) in diameter it must be laced two times at each position.

NOTE

To identify the consumable materials, refer to the PCI.

Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 71-51-42-350-052 Replace the Ties

      1. Remove the ties which are damaged, or those necessary to give access to damaged cables

      2. Make a note of the position of the ties that follow: the general ties, the ties which identify the positions of the general clamps, the ties which identify the positions of the datum clamps and the ties at the connection of two wire bundles.

      1. Replace the general ties, if necessary.

      2. Refer to Figure for the procedure for lacing the wire bundles.

      3. Use the CoMat 02-159 LACING TAPE to tie the wire bundles.

      4. Put the ties not more than 2.0 in. (50.8 mm) apart.

      1. Replace the ties at a general clamp position, if necessary

      2. Refer to Figure and Figure for the procedure for lacing the wire bundles.

      3. Use the CoMat 02-184 LACING TAPE to tie the wire bundles on the general clamp position.

      4. Use the CoMat 02-159 LACING TAPE to tie the wire bundles approximately 1.0 in. (25.4 mm) from the center of the general clamp position.

      1. Replace the ties at a datum clamp position, if necessary

      2. Refer to Figure and Figure for the procedure for lacing the wire bundles.

      3. Use the CoMat 02-184 LACING TAPE to tie the wire bundles. Put the ties approximately 0.335 in. (8.5 mm) from the center of the datum clamp position.

      1. Replace the ties at the connection of two wire bundles, if necessary

      2. Refer to Figure for the procedure for lacing the wire bundles.

      3. Use the CoMat 02-159 LACING TAPE to tie the wire bundles.

        1. Start the procedure at a point between the No. 1 and the No. 2 bundles and do the steps which follow:

        2. Make a clove hitch around the No. 1 bundle (step 1). Pull each end of the tape so that the knot is tight. Pull the end A away from the lacing C that holds the No. 1 and No. 2 bundles together. Look in the direction of the arrow D. Wind the end B around the No. 2 bundle in a counter-clockwise direction for one turn. Put the end of the tape between the No. 1 and No. 2 bundles.

        3. Continue to wind the tape around the No. 1 bundle in a clockwise direction for one turn. Make sure that the end B is above the end A (step 2).

        4. Do again step 2 above until you wind the bundles six times (step 3). Pull the end B after each wind so that the lacing is tight.

        5. Use a blunt tool to make a clearance between the No. 1 and No. 2 bundles. Wind the end A around the six laces and between the No. 1 and No. 2 bundles.

        6. Do this in a counterclockwise direction for one turn. Wind the end B around the six laces and between the No. 1 and No. 2 bundles .

        7. Do this in a clockwise direction for one turn (step 4). Do again step 4 above until you wind the laces three times (step 5).

        8. Pull the ends of the tape after each wind so that the lacing is tight. Complete the lacing with a square knot (step 6).

    1. SUBTASK 71-51-42-220-051 Examine the Repair Area

      1. Examine the repair area

      2. Make sure that the repaired area has no damage and that it agrees with the repair instruction.

    1. SUBTASK 71-51-42-380-051 Seal the Ties

      WARNING

KEEP FLAMES, AND ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT WHICH IS NOT FLAMEPROOF, AWAY FROM THE WORK AREA. THE SILICONE VARNISH IS FLAMMABLE.

      2. Apply the varnish to the knot of each of the ties.

      3. When the varnish is dry, cut off the two ends of the ties approximately 0.35 in. (8.9 mm) from the knot.

    1. SUBTASK 71-51-42-850-052 Put the Repair Scheme Number on the Harness
