Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-00-40-560-078-A00 V2500-A1: Install the Remove/Install Fixture and the Tie-Rod Adapter to the HP System Module Rear Flange

    1. Refer to Figure.

      2. Attach IAE 1P16057 Tie-rod adapter 1 off or IAE 1P16285 Tie-rod adapter 1 off on to the center ring (part of IAE 1P16046 Removal/Installation fixture or IAE 1P16543 Removal/Installation fixture 1 off).

      1. Put the puck and shaft through the center ring until the tie-rod adapter touches the rear face of the center ring.

      2. Align the two holes on the tie-rod adapter with two opposite holes in the center ring. Install the two tool screws. Tighten the screws.

      3. Move the locknut until it is adjacent to the wrench location.

      4. Push the tie-rod adapter in to the engine until the puck engages on the HP compressor front shoulder. At the same time push the center ring over the HP compressor shaft until it touches the stage 2 HP turbine disk.

      5. NOTE

        If necessary use a wrench on the location so that the shaft does not turn.

        Turn the locknut until the puck is against the HP compressor front shoulder. Tighten the locknut.

      6. Attach a hoist to the IAE 1F10052 Two cables sling 1 off and attach the lift sling to the remove/install fixture lift eye.

      7. Lift the remove/install fixture and move it adjacent to the rear of the HP system module. Make sure the hand knobs are rearwards.

      8. Move the remove/install fixture over the center ring until it touches the HP turbine case rear flange.

      9. Put the upper split ring on to the front of the HP turbine case rear flange. Install 12 of the tool bolts and 12 of the tool nuts.

      10. Put the lower split ring on to the front of the HP turbine case rear flange. Install 13 of the tool bolts and 13 of the tool nuts.

      11. Tighten the 25 tool nuts.

      12. Remove the hoist from the lift eye.

    2. SUBTASK 72-00-40-560-078-B00 V2500-A5: Install the Remove/Install Fixture and the Tie-Rod Adapter to the HP System Module Rear Flange

    1. Refer to Figure.

      2. Attach IAE IAE 1P16285 Tie-rod adapter 1 off on to the center ring (part of IAE 1P16046 Removal/Installation fixture or IAE 1P16543 Removal/Installation fixture 1 off).

      1. Put the puck and shaft through the center ring until the tie-rod adapter touches the rear face of the center ring.

      2. Align the two holes on the tie-rod adapter with two opposite holes in the center ring. Install the two tool screws. Tighten the screws.

      3. Move the locknut until it is adjacent to the wrench location.

      4. Push the tie-rod adapter in to the engine until the puck engages on the HP compressor front shoulder. At the same time push the center ring over the HP compressor shaft until it touches the stage 2 HP turbine disk.

      5. NOTE

        If necessary use a wrench on the location so that the shaft does not turn.

        Turn the locknut until the puck is against the HP compressor front shoulder. Tighten the locknut.

      6. Attach a hoist to the IAE IAE 1F10052 Two cables sling 1 off and attach the lift sling to the remove/install fixture lift eye.

      7. Lift the remove/install fixture and move it adjacent to the rear of the HP system module. Make sure the hand knobs are rearwards.

      8. Move the remove/install fixture over the center ring until it touches the HP turbine case rear flange.

      9. Put the upper split ring on to the front of the HP turbine case rear flange. Install 12 of the tool bolts and 12 of the tool nuts.

      10. Put the lower split ring on to the front of the HP turbine case rear flange. Install 13 of the tool bolts and 13 of the tool nuts.

      11. Tighten the 25 tool nuts.

      12. Remove the hoist from the lift eye.

    3. SUBTASK 72-00-40-560-079 Attach the Lift Sling to the LP Compressor/Intermediate Case Module and the HP System Module to be Turned

    1. Refer to Figure.

      2. If necessary set IAE 1F10051 Two cable sling 1 off in to the outer position.

      1. Attach a hoist to the lift sling and put the lift sling above the LP compressor/intermediate case module.

      2. Attach the lift sling hook and bolt plate to the trunnions on the intermediate case. Insert the safety clip to safety the lift sling.

    4. SUBTASK 72-00-40-560-080 Lift and Turn the LP Compressor/Intermediate Case Module and the HP System Module

    1. Refer to Figure and Figure.

    2. Use the two hoists to lift the LP compressor/intermediate case module and HP system module off the two support posts and the support cradle. Lift the modules to a sufficient height to permit the modules to be turned. Move the support posts and pedestal cradle away.

    3. Use the rear hoist only to raise the rear until the modules are in the vertical position and the forward lift sling cables are loose.

    4. Remove the forward lift sling hook and bolt plate from the trunnions on the LP compressor/intermediate case module.

    5. Lower the lift sling on to an applicable work surface and remove the hoist from the lift sling.

    5. SUBTASK 72-00-40-560-081 Install the LP Compressor/Intermediate Case Module and the HP System Module Assembly on to the Vertical Build Stand

    1. Refer to Figure.

    2. Put the 4 stands (part of IAE 1J12210 Vertical build stand 1 off) in a circular position. The four stands must be equally spaced. The diameter of the circle should be equal to the diameter of the LP compressor/intermediate case module front flange.

    3. Lower the LP compressor/intermediate case module and the HP system until they are approximately 1 in. (25 mm) above the build stand. The trunnions on the LP compressor/intermediate case module must be in the middle of two adjacent stands.

    4. NOTE

      It can be necessary to make small adjustments of the four stand positions to align the holes in the support brackets.

      Turn the adjustment handles on the build stand until the brackets touch the LP compressor/intermediate case module front flange. At the same time align the holes in the support brackets with holes in the front flange. Make sure the front flange is level.

    5. Install two tool bolts through the support brackets and the LP compressor/intermediate case module front flange. Install the eight tool washers and the eight tool nuts on to the tool bolts.

    6. Tighten the nuts and bolts.

    6. SUBTASK 72-00-40-560-082 Remove the Tools from the LP Compressor/Intermediate Case Module and the HP System Modules

    1. Refer to Figure and Figure.

      2. Remove the remove/install fixture and tie-rod adapter from the diffuser case rear flange.

      1. Adjust the height of the hoist to hold the weight of the remove/install fixture.

      2. Remove the 25 nuts and 25 bolts which safety the remove/install fixture to the HP turbine case. Remove the two split rings.

      3. Release the locknut on the end of the tie-rod shaft.

      4. Remove the two screws that safety the tie-rod adapter on to the remove/install fixture.

      5. Move the shaft in to the engine to disengage the puck from the HP compressor shaft front shoulder.

      6. Remove the tie-rod adapter from the module.

      7. Remove the remove/install fixture from the module and put it on to a suitable work surface. Remove the hoist and the lift sling.

      3. Remove the trunnions from the LP compressor/intermediate case module.

      1. Remove the two tool nuts and the two tool bolts.

      2. Remove the trunnion and lift bracket.

      3. Put the trunnion and lift bracket on an applicable work surface.
