General

Fig/item numbers in parentheses in the procedure agree with those used in the IPC. Only the primary Fig/item numbers are used. For the service bulletin alpha variants refer to the IPC.

Apply the approved CoMat 10-058 PENETRATING OIL before the removal of threaded parts and parts with an interference fit. Let the parts soak before removal.

Remove and discard the lockwire before parts are disconnected or removed.

Discard all rubber seal rings, cotter pins and seal washers removed in this procedure.

NOTE

To identify the consumable materials refer to the PCI.

NOTE

Special tools are identified in the procedure by the tool primary number.

Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-00-42-020-063 Remove the Stage 1 Turbine Nozzle Assembly

    2. Remove the stage 1 turbine nozzle assembly. Refer to TASK 72-00-44-020-001-002 (REMOVAL-002).

    1. SUBTASK 72-00-42-020-064 Remove the Igniter Plugs

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. CAUTION

        DO NOT BEND THE ELECTRICAL CABLE CONDUIT TOO MUCH WHEN YOU DISCONNECT THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR. THE CONDUIT CAN BE DAMAGED AND CAN CAUSE ELECTRICAL CIRCUIT DEFECTS.

        Disconnect the high tension leads.

      2. Loosen the clamps and move then away from the cooling shrouds.

      3. Remove the cooling shrouds.

      4. Disconnect the high tension leads.

      1. CAUTION

        DO NOT REMOVE THE IGNITER INSERT.

        Remove the igniter plugs.

        1. Remove the igniter plug.

        2. Hold the threaded insert with a wrench so it will not turn.

        3. Loosen the igniter plug with a wrench to remove it from the threaded insert.

        4. Remove the igniter plug.

        5. Do the procedure again to remove the remaining igniter plug.

    1. SUBTASK 72-00-42-020-065 Attach the Lift Sling

    2. Install the sling cables, equally apart, in the holes in the outer combustion chamber nearest the large end.

    3. Attach the sling to a hoist and lift the combustion chamber to release the load from doweled end bolts.

    1. SUBTASK 72-00-42-020-066 Remove the Outer Combustion Chamber

    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. Remove the lockwire from the five doweled end bolts on the diffuser case. Release and remove the five doweled end bolts.

    4. Lift the outer combustion chamber from the engine and place on a pallet or a workbench. Remove the sling.

    5. Release the knob assemblies on the install/remove fixture and remove the knobs, the clamp and the fixture from the chamber.
