TASK 72-00-42-020-002 Combustion System - Remove The Diffuser Case Assembly, Removal-003

General

Fig/item numbers in parentheses in the procedure agree with those used in the IPC. Only the primary Fig/item numbers are used. For the service bulletin alpha variants refer to the IPC.

Remove the combustion system with the HP system module installed in the workshop stand. The procedure for the installation of the HP system module in to the workshop stand is given in TASK 72-00-40-560-001 (REMOVAL-005)

Remove and discard the lockwire before parts are disconnected or removed.

Discard all rubber seal rings, cotter pins and seal washers removed in this procedure.

NOTE

Special tools are identified in the procedure by the tool primary number.

Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-00-42-020-055 Remove the Stage 1 Turbine Nozzle Assembly

    1. Refer to TASK 72-00-44-020-001-001 (REMOVAL-001, METHOD-001) or TASK 72-00-44-020-001-002 (REMOVAL-002, METHOD-002).

    2. SUBTASK 72-00-42-020-056 Remove the Cover

    1. Remove the IAE 1P16104 Cover 1 off.

    3. SUBTASK 72-00-42-020-057 Remove the No.4 Bearing Compartment Parts

    1. Refer to TASK 72-00-43-020-001 (REMOVAL).

    4. SUBTASK 72-00-42-020-067 Install the HP Compressor Support Rods

    1. Refer to Figure.

    2. Make sure the variable stator vanes (VSV) are in the low speed position.

    3. Install IAE 1R18247 Rigging pin 1 off through the bracket and into the HP compressor case to lock the VSVs.

    4. Remove the six bolts HP COMPRESSOR SPLIT CASE (72-41-31, 01-122), the two brackets HP COMPRESSOR SPLIT CASE (72-41-31, 01-155 and HP COMPRESSOR SPLIT CASE 01-118) and three blanks HP COMPRESSOR SPLIT CASE (72-41-31, 01-120) from the HP compressor front cases.

      5. Install the IAE 1R18234 Support rod 3 off.

      1. Turn the adjustment handle to retract the blade of the tool.

      2. Carefully install the support rods through the holes in the HP compressor lower split case. Make sure the blades are rearwards.

      3. Safety the support rods to the HP compressor lower split case with the six tool bolts.

      4. Turn the adjustment handle until the blades touch the HP compressor stage 3 disk and lightly tighten.

    5. SUBTASK 72-00-42-020-058 Attach the Fixture to the Combustion System

    1. Refer to Figure.

    2. Make sure the IAE 1P16104 Cover 1 off is in position.

    3. Attach a hoist to the eyebolt detail of the IAE 1P16122 Installation fixture 1 off. Lift the fixture over the combustion system.

    4. Lower the fixture over the HPC rear hub. Align the hole in the fixture flange with the dowel pin in the inner flange of the diffuser case assembly.

    5. Attach the fixture to the flange with the 15 work bolts.

    6. SUBTASK 72-00-42-020-059 Remove the Combustion System from the HP Compressor Assembly

    1. Remove the 114 nuts and bolts at the front flange of the diffuser case assembly.

    2. Remove the two bolts which hold the fuel distribution valve to the bracket on the HPC flange J.

    3. Lift the diffuser and combustion group away from the HP compressor assembly.

    7. SUBTASK 72-00-42-020-060 Install the Handling Brackets on to the Front Flange of the Diffuser Case Assembly

    1. Install the IAE 1P16004 Handling bracket 2 off on the front flange of the diffuser case assembly 90 degrees either side of the locating pin in the front flange.

    2. Attach the brackets with the five screws. Install the screws from the rear of the diffuser case flange.

    8. SUBTASK 72-00-42-020-061 Install the Combustion System on to the Build Stand

    1. CAUTION

      MAKE SURE THE BALL-LOCK PIN ENGAGES THE LOCKING DISK TO KEEP THE BUILD STAND STABLE.

      Refer to Figure.

    2. Attach the IAE 1P16004 Handling bracket 2 off to the IAE 1P16005 Build stand 1 off with the eight work bolts.

    3. Remove the 15 bolts from the IAE 1P16122 Installation fixture 1 off and move the fixture away from the combustion system.

    4. Install the IAE 1P16107 cover 1 off over the threaded part of the No. 4 bearing support.

    5. CAUTION

      MAKE SURE TWO PERSONS TURN THE COMBUSTION SYSTEM.

      Turn the combustion system so the front flange is up.

    6. Install the IAE 1P16108 cover 1 off in the ID of the No. 4 bearing cooling duct.

    9. SUBTASK 72-00-42-020-062-A00 V2500-A1: Remove the Heatshield and the Static Seal Assembly (Pre SBE 72-0143)

      NOTE

      This SUBTASK is only to be completed if the diffuser case is not to be overhauled.

    1. Refer to Figure.

    2. Remove the IAE 1P16108 cover from the ID of the No. 4 bearing cooling duct.

      3. Remove the heatshield.

      1. Remove the 10 bolts that secure the heatshield to the diffuser case.

      2. Remove the heatshield.

      4. Remove the static seal assembly.

      1. Remove the 20 bolts that secure the static seal assembly to the diffuser case.

      2. Install the six work bolts into the six jack screw holes in the static seal assembly.

      3. Turn each bolt one turn in sequence.

      4. Do Step again until the static seal assembly is free.

      5. NOTE

        Submit the static seal assembly to TASK 72-42-50-200-000 (INSPECTION/CHECK-000) for INSPECTION/CHECK.
        Make sure that the OGV case surface is free from damage.

        Remove the static seal assembly.

    5. Install the IAE 1P16108 cover in the ID of the No. 4 bearing cooling duct.

    10. SUBTASK 72-00-42-020-062-B00 V2500-A1: Remove the Static Seal Assembly (SBE 72-0143)

    1. NOTE

      This SUBTASK is only to be completed if the diffuser case is not to be overhauled.

      Refer to Figure.

    2. Remove the IAE 1P16108 cover from the ID of the No. 4 bearing cooling duct.

      3. Remove the static seal assembly.

      1. Remove the 30 bolts that secure the static seal assembly to the diffuser case.

      2. Install the six work bolts into the six jack screw holes in the static seal assembly.

      3. Turn each bolt one turn in sequence.

      4. Do Step again until the static seal assembly is free.

      5. NOTE

        Submit the static seal assembly to TASK 72-42-50-200-000 (INSPECTION/CHECK-000) for INSPECTION/CHECK.
        Make sure that the OGV case surface is free from damage.

        Remove the static seal assembly.

    4. Install the IAE 1P16108 cover in the ID of the No. 4 bearing cooling duct.

    11. SUBTASK 72-00-42-020-062-C00 Remove the Static Seal Assembly

    1. NOTE

      This SUBTASK is only to be completed if the diffuser case is not to be overhauled.

      Refer to Figure.

    2. Remove IAE 1P16108 cover from the ID of the No. 4 bearing cooling duct.

      3. Remove the static seal assembly.

      1. Remove the 30 bolts that secure the static seal assembly to the diffuser case.

      2. Install the six work bolts into the six jack screw holes in the static seal assembly.

      3. Turn each bolt one turn in sequence.

      4. Do Step again until the static seal assembly is free.

      5. NOTE

        Submit the static seal assembly to TASK 72-42-50-200-000 (INSPECTION/CHECK-000) for INSPECTION/CHECK.
        Make sure that the OGV case surface is free from damage.

        Remove the static seal assembly.

    4. Install the IAE 1P16108 cover in the ID of the No. 4 bearing cooling duct.
