TASK 72-31-00-530-001 LP Compressor (LPC) Fan Module - Pack

General

The LP compressor (fan) module is installed on IAE 1J12110 Transportation and storage stand or IAE 1J12019 Storage stand before this TASK starts.

This TASK gives two methods. The first (method 1) is for vertical storage stand, and the other (method 2) is for horizontal storage stand

- For vertical storage, the storage stand, IAE 1J12110 Transportation and storage stand is used. Use method 1 procedure.

- For horizontal storage, the storage stand, IAE 1J12019 Storage stand is used. Use method 2 procedure.

Fig/item numbers in parentheses in the procedure agree with those used in the IPC. Only the primary Fig/item numbers are used. For the service bulletin alpha variants refer to the IPC.

For all parts identified in a different Chapter/Section/Subject, the applicable Chapter/Section/Subject comes before the Fig/item number.

To identify the consumable materials refer to the PCI.

Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-31-00-530-051 Open the Shipping Container

    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. Put IAE 5J12195 Shipping container 1 off on a work area.

    4. Remove the bolts and the nuts which attach the cover section of the container to the base section.

      1. Remove the cover section from the base section.

      2. Install the applicable sling to the cover section.

      3. Attach the sling to a hoist.

      4. Lift the cover section with the sling and remove the cover section from the base section.

      5. Use the blocks to protect the sealing surface of the cover section if the cover section is put on the floor.

    1. SUBTASK 72-31-00-530-052-001 Move the LP Compressor (Fan) Module from the Storage Stand (Vertical Type) in to the Shipping Container (Method 1)

    2. Put the module, which is installed on the storage stand, adjacent to the container.

    3. Remove the wing nut and the clamp of the storage stand to release the module from the storage stand, Figure.

      1. Install IAE 1J12101 Vertical sling 1 off to the module, Figure.

      2. Put the vertical sling on the blade front retaining ring of the module.

      3. Safety the vertical sling with the eight plain washers and bolts. Tighten the bolts.

      4. Attach the vertical sling to a second hoist.

    4. Slowly lift the module with the vertical sling until the module is clear of the storage stand.

      1. Replace the protection cover to the curvic teeth of the fan disk of the module, Figure.

      2. Remove the three bolts and washers from the curvic teeth. Remove the protection cover.

      3. Install the protection cover which is part of the container, on to the curvic teeth.

      4. Safety the protection cover with the three knurled knobs and stifle plates. Tighten the knurled knobs.

        NOTE

        Adjust the sling operation to make sure of the correct installation of the module in to position.
        Align the six holes in the protection cover with the six bolts in the support seat.
        Do not loosen the six bolts in the support seat. Tighten them if they are loose.
    5. Slowly lower the module until the protection cover of the module is fully engaged with the support seat of the container, Figure.

      1. Remove the vertical sling from the module.

      2. Remove the eight bolts and the plain washers which attach the vertical sling to the module.

      3. Remove the vertical sling from the module.

      4. Remove the vertical sling from the hoist.

      1. Safety the module to the container, Figure.

      2. Install the flange of the container on to the disk front hub of the module.

      3. Install the spring washer and the plain washer of the shipping support on to the bolt.

      4. Install the bolt in to the support frame of the container and tighten the bolt.

    1. SUBTASK 72-31-00-530-052-002 Move the LP Compressor (Fan) Module from the Storage Stand (Horizontal Type) in to the Shipping Container (Method 2)

    2. Put the module, which is installed on the storage stand, adjacent to the shipping container.

      1. Assemble the slinging tools, Figure.

      2. Attach a hoist to the link (part of IAE 1J12104 Sling adapter 1 off) and lift up.

      3. Move the sling adapter on to the work bench and remove the hoist from the sling adapter.

      4. Attach the second hoist to the shackle (part of IAE 1J12105 Cantileer sling 1 off).

      5. Lift and attach the cantilever sling to the sling adapter and safety them with the quick release pin (part of the sling adapter).

      1. Turn the assembled slinging tools to horizontal position, Figure and Figure.

        1. Adjust the centre of gravity of the assembled slinging tools.

        2. Turn the adjustment handle to align the witness hole in the side plate with the S1-mark on the cantilever sling beam.

        3. Lock the adjustment handle in position.

      2. Attach the first hoist to the lifting ring (part of the cantilever sling) and tighten the hoist rope/chains.

      3. Remove the second hoist from the shackle of the cantilever sling.

      4. Attach the second hoist to the link of the sling adapter and tighten the hoist rope/chains.

      5. Adjust the two hoists to turn the assembled slinging tools to the horizontal position. Then, remove the second hoist from the link of the sling adapter.

      1. Remove the LP compressor (fan) module from the storage stand, Figure.

        1. Remove the guards from the storage stand to make space for removal of the module from the storage stand.

        2. Remove the two quick release pins from each guard.

        3. Remove the guards from the storage stand.

      2. Install IAE 1J12180 Hub protector 1 off in to the fan disk.

      3. CAUTION

        DO NOT HIT THE STAGE 1 FAN DISK WITH TOOLS WHEN YOU REMOVE THE SCREWS. THE TOOLS CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE DISK.

        NOTE

        The remaining three screws must be 120 degrees apart from each other.

        Remove 21 of the 24 screws and plain washers (part of the storage stand) which attach the module to the support (part of the storage stand) with IAE 1J12016 Special wrench 1 off.

      4. Remove the hub protector from the fan disk.

      5. Lift the assembled slinging tools with the first hoist and move adjacent to the forward flange of the module.

      6. Attach the flange of the sling adapter to the forward flange of the module with the 12 bolts (part of the sling adapter). Tighten the bolts.

        1. Adjust the centre of gravity of the assembled slinging tools.

        2. Turn the adjustment handle to align the witness hole in the side plate with the S2-mark on the cantilever sling beam.

        3. Lock the adjustment handle in position.

      7. CAUTION

        DO NOT HIT THE STAGE 1 FAN DISK WITH TOOLS WHEN YOU REMOVE THE SCREWS. THE TOOLS CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE DISK.

        Remove the remaining three screws and plain washers which attach the module to the support of the storage stand with the special wrench.

      8. Slowly remove the module from the storage stand.

      1. Install the protection cover (part of the shipping container). Figure.

      2. Install the protection cover (part of the shipping container), on to the curvic teeth.

      3. Safety the protection cover with the three knurled knobs and stifle plates (part of the shipping container). Tighten the knurled knobs.

      1. Turn the LP compressor (fan) module from the horizontal position to the vertical position, Figure and Figure.

      2. Attach the second hoist to the link of the sling adapter and tighten the rope/chains.

      3. CAUTION

        MAKE SURE THAT THE QUICK RELEASE PIN IS ENGAGED WITH THE INNER HOLES IN THE BRACKET OF THE CANTILEVER SLING.

        NOTE

        Do this operation with two persons on each side of the LP compressor (fan) module.

        Adjust the two hoists to turn the assembled tools and the module from the horizontal position to the vertical position.

      4. Engage the quick release pin in to the outer holes in the bracket of the cantilever sling and hold the hoist rope/chains between the bracket.

      1. Move the LP compressor (fan) module in to the shipping container, Figure.

      2. NOTE

        Adjust the sling operation to make sure of the correct installation of the module in to position.
        Align the six holes in the protection cover with the six bolts in the support seat.
        Do not loosen the six bolts in the support seat. Tighten them if they are loose.

        Slowly remove the hoists until the protection cover of the curvic teeth is fully engaged with the support seat of the container.

        1. Remove the assembled slinging tools from the module, Figure.

        2. Remove the second hoist from the link of the sling adapter and attach it to the shackle of the cantilever sling. Tighten the hoist rope/chains.

        3. Remove the first hoist from the lifting ring of the cantilever sling.

        4. Disengage the quick release pin which attaches the cantilever sling to the sling adapter.

        5. Remove and lift the cantilever sling with the second hoist.

        6. Install the first hoist to the link of the sling adapter. Tighten the hoist rope/chains.

        7. Remove the 12 bolts which attach the sling adapter to the module.

        8. Remove the sling adapter from the module.

      1. Safety the module to the shipping container, Figure.

      2. Install the flange (part of the shipping container) on to the disk front hub of the module.

      3. Install the spring washer and the plain washer support (part of the shipping container) on to the bolt (part of the shipping container).

      4. Install the bolt in to the support seat (part of the shipping container) and tighten the bolt.

    1. SUBTASK 72-31-00-530-053 Put the Applicable Module Records in to the Base Section of the Shipping Container

    2. Put the module records in to the record container made from CoMat 12-004 P.V.C. SHEET.

      1. Put the record container in to the record receptacle in the base section.

      2. Remove the cover from the record receptacle.

      3. Put the record container in to the record receptacle.

      4. Close the record receptacle with the cover.

    1. SUBTASK 72-31-00-530-054 Put the Desiccant and the Humidity Indicator in to the Base Section

    2. CAUTION

      THE PROPERTIES OF THE DESICCANT WILL DECREASE IF EXPOSED TO MOIST CONDITIONS. WHEN REMOVED FROM THE CONTAINER, THE DESICCANT MUST BE PUT IN TO POSITION AND THE SHIPPING CONTAINER SEALED IN LESS THAN 10 MINUTES.

      Open a container of CoMat 12-022 DESICCANT SELF INDICATING and put the bags of the desiccant in to the desiccant receptacle(s) in the base section.

    3. NOTE

      For the specified quantity of the desiccant, refer to the container maintenance supplied by the vendor who sells the shipping container.

      Write the quantity of the desiccant on the instruction card.

    4. Put the instruction card in to one of the desiccant receptacle(s).

    5. Install the humidity indicator of the CoMat 12-022 DESICCANT SELF INDICATING desicant and humidty indicator to the humidity indicator holder in the base section.

    1. SUBTASK 72-31-00-530-055 Seal the Shipping Container

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Attach the cover section of the container to the base section.

      2. Install the gasket of the container on the flange on the base section.

      3. Lift the cover section with the sling and move it above the base section.

      4. Align the guide hole(s) in the flange of the cover section with the guide pin(s) on the base section.

      5. Slowly lower the cover section on to the base section.

      6. Install the bolts and nuts which attach the cover section to the base section. Torque the nuts to the torque value marked on the container.

    3. Remove the sling from the cover section and the hoist.

    1. SUBTASK 72-31-00-220-052 Do the Subsequent Checks after Packing

      1. Examine the humidity indicator to make sure it is safe at the times shown:

      2. 24 hours, 7 days and then at regular 28 day cycles.

      1. If the humidity indicator changes color, replace the desiccant.

      2. Push the knob in the relief valve in the container to release air pressure in the container.

      3. Remove the external cover(s) of the desiccant receptacle(s) to open the receptacle(s).

      4. Discard all the bags of the desiccant and install the new bags.

      5. Write the quantity of the desiccant on the instruction card and put the instruction card in to one of the desiccant receptacle(s).

      6. Close the receptacle(s) with the external cover(s).

      7. Discard the humidity indicator and install a new one to the humidity indicator holder.
