Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-51-330-055 Machine the Diameter C and D

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. NOTE

If the surfaces has been previously repaired using chromium plate, remove the old plating completely.

Grind off the diameter C and D to the specified dimensions.

        1. NOTE

If the damage is too deep to be removed by the grinding process, grind the snap diameter (Diameter C and Diameter D) to the minimum diameter required before plating the area.

All galling and previous plating must be removed, but keep metal removal to a minimum.

      1. Make smooth and/or polish to remove all the remaining damages if the damages can't be removed by grinding in Step.

      2. Use portable grinding equipment, abrasive stones, fine file, CoMat 05-020 WATERPROOF SILICON CARBIDE and/or CoMat 05-021 WATERPROOF SILICON CARBIDE.

      3. Maximum depth to remove the remaining damages must not be more than 0.014 in. (0.38 mm).

      4. Width of the blended area is to be more than 10 times the depth.

      5. Total circumferential length of the blended area is not more than 10 per cent of circumferential of the snap diameter.

      6. Remove minimum quantity of material necessary to remove damages.

      7. Surface finish of repair must be same as adjacent area.

      8. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-35-03-300-501.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-51-370-053 Stress Relieve the Stub Shaft after Plate Stripping

      1. Heat treat the part for one hour at 374 to 410 deg F (190 to 210 deg C).

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-33-02-300-503.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-51-240-058 Examine the Stub Shaft for Cracks

      1. Magnetic particle examine the ground area.

        1. No cracks permitted.

        2. Refer to TASK 72-32-51-200-000 (INSPECTION-000).

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-51-330-056 Prepare the Stub Shaft for Plating

      1. Clean the part.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-33-02-300-503.

      1. Mask all the surface except the plating area.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-38-24-380-501.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-51-380-056 Alkali Clean the Stub Shaft

      1. Alkali clean the part.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-33-02-300-503.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-51-330-057 Chromium Plate the Stub Shaft

      1. Immerse the part in a standard chromium plating solution for sufficient time to achieve the plating thickness of 0.008 in. (0.2 mm) minimum.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-33-02-300-503.

      1. Treatment after plating.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-33-02-300-503.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-51-370-054 Bake the Stub Shaft after Plating

    2. Bake the plated part as soon as possible (not later than 16 hours after plating).

      NOTE

      Hours: 3 hours minimum.
      Temperature: 374 to 410 deg F (190 to 210 deg C).
    1. SUBTASK 72-32-51-220-101 Examine the Stub Shaft after Plating

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Visually examine the chromium deposit for pits, visible cracks, burrs and excessive build up on the corners of plating areas.

      2. Refer to TASK 72-32-51-200-000 (INSPECTION-000)..

      3. Dimples which are caused by blended area in step 4.C. are acceptable.

      1. Dimensional check the plating diameter.

      2. Refer to TASK 72-32-51-200-000 (INSPECTION-000).

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-51-320-051 Grind the Stub Shaft after Plating

    2. Refer to Figure and Figure.

      1. Grind the plated area to the specified dimensions with a universal grinder.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-33-02-300-503.

      1. Make smooth and polish dimples which are caused by blended area in Step.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-35-03-300-501.
