Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-88-350-065 Remove the Damaged Plate Nuts of the Fan Exit Vane Assembly

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Grind off the heads of the rivets.

        1. Use hand held pneumatic grinder.

        2. Take care not to damage the inner platform of the fan exit vane assembly.

      1. Remove the rivets and plate nuts.

      2. Use a plastic hammer and a punch.

      1. Remove sharp edges and/or burrs around the rivet holes.

      2. Use fine file.

      1. Air blow and clean the rivet holes.

      2. Use a soft clean cloth.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-88-220-106 Examine the Rivet Holes of the Fan Exit Vane Assembly

      1. Visually examine the rivet holes.

        1. Cracks and burrs are not permitted.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-88-380-057 Apply the Surface Protection to the Fan Exit Vane Assembly

      1. Apply chromate conversion coating to the repaired surfaces, if necessary.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-38-02-300-503.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-88-220-107 Examine the Plate Nut

      1. Install 5A0803 Bolt to the plate nut. If the thread of 5A0803 Bolt can be engaged with the thread of the plate nut by hand, the plate nut is accepted.

      2. Use Bolt (P/N 5A0803).

      1. If the plate nut can not be accepted by step A., install and remove the full thread bolt into the plate nut in order to extend the hole diameter of plate nut.

      2. Use 0.375-24 UNJF-3A thread Bolt (MS9699 or equivalent).

      1. Install 5A0803 Bolt to the plate nut and check that the thread of 5A0803 Bolt can be engaged with the thread of the plate nut. If 5A0803 Bolt can be engaged, the plate nut is accepted.

      2. Use Bolt (P/N 5A0803).

    2. If 5A0803 Bolt can not be engaged with the plate nut, do step B. and C.

    3. If 5A0803 Bolt can not be engaged with the plate nut after step D. is done twice, reject the nut.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-88-350-066 Install the Plate Nuts to the Fan Exit Vane Assembly

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Apply zinc chromate coating to the rivet and the contacted surfaces of the plate nuts and fan exit vane assembly.

    3. Install the plate nuts which is accepted by paragraph 7. in position on the inner platform of the fan exit vane assembly.

    4. Install the rivets through the inner platform of the fan exit vane assembly and the plate nuts.

      1. Squeeze the rivets to hold the plate nuts.

        1. Use continuous squeezing action.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-88-220-108 Examine the Plate Nuts of the Fan Exit Vane Assembly

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Visually and dimensionally examine the installed formed rivets.

        1. The rivet must be tight.

        2. Both the rivet heads should be correctly seated.

        3. The formed rivet head must not have any cracks or sign of bursting at the periphery.

        4. The formed rivet heads must not be offset from stem.
