Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-91-350-051 Remove the Damage from the Inlet Guide Vane Assembly

    2. Refer to Figure and Figure.

      1. CAUTION

        TITANIUM COMPONENT. SILICON CARBON TYPE WHEELS, STONES AND ABRASIVE PAPERS ARE TO BE USED FOR THIS REPAIR.

        CAUTION

        TITANIUM COMPONENT. ALUMINUM OXIDE MUST NOT BE USED.

        CAUTION

        TITANIUM COMPONENT. THE MATERIAL WILL OXIDIZE AND CRACK IF MECHANICAL CUTTERS ARE USED HEAVILY. THIS WILL HAVE OCCURRED IF THE COMPONENT SHOWS A DARK STRAW TO BLUE DISCOLORATION.

        Scallop, make smooth and/or hand polish to remove nicks and scratches.

        1. Use abrasive stones or papers and/or a fine file.

        2. Use light pressure to prevent the risk of overheating the material.

        3. Polish marks must be made in a radial direction from the vane ID to OD.

        4. The surface finish of the repair area must be the same as the adjacent area.

      1. Hand polish the vane leading and/or trailing edge radius and the vane profile to make a smooth shape.

        1. Remove the minimum amount of material necessary to make the correct radius.

        2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-35-03-300-501.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-91-220-051 Examine the LPC Inlet Guide Vane Assembly

    2. Refer to Figure and Figure.

      1. Do a visual and dimensional examination of the vane.

        1. Visually examine the repaired area for nicks and scratches.

        2. Refer to TASK 72-32-91-200-000 (INSPECTION-000).

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-91-230-051 Examine the LPC Inlet Guide Vane Assembly for Cracks

      1. Do a fluorescent penetrant examination of the repaired area.

        1. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-23-05-230-501.

        2. Make sure there are no cracks in the repaired area.
