General

Fig/item numbers in parentheses in the procedure agree with those used in the IPC. Only the primary Fig/item numbers are used. For the service bulletin alpha variants refer to the IPC.

Remove the outer combustion chamber with the HP system module installed in the workshop stand. The procedure for the installation of the HP system module in to the workshop stand is given in TASK 72-00-40-580-003.

Remove and discard the lockwire before parts are disconnected or removed.

Discard all rubber seal rings, cotter pins and seal washers removed in this procedure.

NOTE

Special tools are identified in the procedure by the tool primary number.

Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-40-00-030-051 Remove the Stage 1 Turbine Nozzle Assembly

    1. Remove the stage 1 turbine nozzle assembly. Refer to TASK 72-40-00-030-002.

    2. SUBTASK 72-40-00-030-052 Attach the Lift Sling

    1. Refer to Figure.

      2. Install the IAE 1P16102 Lift sling 1 off to the outer combustion chamber.

      1. Attach the three cables (equally spaced) to the holes nearest the rear end of the combustion chamber. Attach the sling to a hoist.

    3. Lift the hoist until tension is felt on the lift sling cables.

    3. SUBTASK 72-40-00-030-087 Remove the Igniter Plugs

      1. CAUTION

        DO NOT BEND THE ELECTRICAL CABLE CONDUIT TOO MUCH WHEN YOU DISCONNECT THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR. THE CONDUIT CAN BE DAMAGED AND CAN CAUSE ELECTRICAL CIRCUIT DEFECTS.

        Disconnect the high tension leads.

      1. Loosen the clamps and move them away from the cooling jackets.

      2. Remove the cooling jackets.

      3. Disconnect the high tension leads.

    2. NOTE

      Hold the threaded insert with a wrench so it will not turn when the igniter plug is removed.

      Remove the igniter plugs.

    4. SUBTASK 72-40-00-030-053 Remove the Outer Combustion Chamber

    1. Refer to Figure.

    2. Release the lockwire from the five doweled end bolts on the diffuser case. Release and remove the five doweled end bolts.

    3. Remove the outer combustion chamber from the engine and place on a pallet or workbench. Remove the hoist and the lift sling from the combustion chamber.
