This Repair must only be done when the instruction to do so is given in 72-41-21 Inspection.

Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-21-350-120 Remove Damaged Area(s)

    1. Refer to Figure.

      2. CAUTION

        TITANIUM COMPONENT - YOU MUST USE SILICON CARBIDE TYPE ABRASIVE WHEELS, STONES AND PAPERS TO DRESS, BLEND AND POLISH THIS COMPONENT.
        TITANIUM COMPONENT - DO NOT USE FORCE WITH MECHANICAL CUTTERS OR THE MATERIAL WILL BECOME TOO HOT.
        TITANIUM COMPONENT - IF THE MATERIAL SHOWS A CHANGE IN COLOR, TO DARKER THAN A LIGHT STRAW COLOR, THE COMPONENT IS TO BE REJECTED.

        Remove area(s) of damage.

      1. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-35-03-300-501.

      3. The diameter of the repaired area must be 50 x D, where D is the maximum depth of material removed and must not be more than 0.005in. (0.13 mm).

      3. Make smooth.

      1. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-35-03-300-501.

      3. Remove sharp corners.

      4. Make sure damage marks are fully removed.

    2. SUBTASK 72-41-21-220-280 Examine the Repair

    1. Refer to Figure.

      2. Examine the area(s) of repair.

      1. Use workshop inspection equipment.

      2. Make sure maximum depth of repaired area is not more than 0.005 in. (0.13 mm).

    3. SUBTASK 72-41-21-230-120 Do a Crack Test

      1. Do a penetrant crack test.

      1. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-23-02-230-501.

      2. Use penetrant crack test equipment.

      3. No cracks are permitted.
