General

This TASK gives the procedure to remove the front bearing housing assembly from the Pre SBE 72-0366 VSV crankshaft assembly.

Fig/item numbers in parentheses in the procedure agree with those used in the IPC. Only the primary Fig/item numbers are used. For the service bulletin alpha variants refer to the IPC.

Apply the approved CoMat 10-058 PENETRATING OIL before the removal of threaded parts and parts with an interference fit. Let the parts soak before removal.

Refer to Figure for a sectional view of the front bearing housing assembly.

NOTE

To identify the consumable materials refer to the PCI.

NOTE

Special tools are identified in the procedure by the tool primary number.

Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-34-040-051 Remove the Front Bearing Housing Assembly from the VSV Crankshaft

    1. Refer to Figure.

    2. Remove the retaining ring that secures the front bearing housing assembly to the VSV crankshaft.

      NOTE

      Keep the VSV crankshaft and front bearing housing assembly together as a set.

      3. Remove the front bearing housing assembly from the VSV crankshaft.

      1. Install and locate the VSV crankshaft and front bearing housing assembly in the IAE 1R18752 Extractor 1 off.

      2. Install the ENERPAC 102 hydraulic jack 1 off and the IAE 1F10026 Hydraulic hand pump 1 off to the extractor.

        1. Attach the vane actuating adapter to the VSV crankshaft and the Hydraulic jack.

        2. Insert the stud, part of the vane actuating adapter, through the holes in the VSV crankshaft and locate on the vane actuating adapter.

        3. Install the washers and nuts, part of the vane actuating adapter, then tighten the nuts.

      4. Operate the hydraulic pump and slowly remove the front bearing housing assembly from the VSV crankshaft.

      5. Remove the VSV crankshaft from the removal extractor.

      6. Remove the nuts, washers, stud and the vane actuating adapter from the VSV crankshaft.
