Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-42-11-350-115 Remove the Inserts from the Diffuser Case

    1. Refer to Figure.

      2. If applicable, remove loose or damaged inserts from the diffuser case.

      1. Use PN 1227-6 removal tool.

    2. SUBTASK 72-42-11-320-085 Machine the Damaged Threads

    1. Refer to Figure.

    2. Machine the damaged threads to a minor diameter of 0.2577 to 0.2646 in. (6.545 to 6.721 mm).

      NOTE

      The hole must be in 0.040 in. (1.02 mm) diameter of true position in relation to the flange face and the initial location of the damaged thread minor diameter.

    3. Machine the lead-in chamfer of 120+/-5 degrees included to a diameter of 0.290 to 0.320 in. (7.37 to 8.13 mm).

      4. Tap the hole and remove the chips.

      1. Use PN 4FPB plug tap.

    3. SUBTASK 72-42-11-220-104 Examine the Threads

      1. Examine the threads after you tap them.

      1. Use PN 3694-4 thread plug gage.

    4. SUBTASK 72-42-11-350-116 Install the New Helical Coil Inserts

    1. Refer to Figure.

    2. Put the PN 1191-4TN250 insert onto the tip of the PN 7552-4 insertion tool.

    3. Put the insert into the threaded hole.

    4. Turn the handle clockwise so the top of the insert is three quarters to one and a half pitch below the face of the flange.

      NOTE

      You can make the insert shorter so that the top thread is below the top surface and the bottom thread does not extend through the hole.

      5. Break the tang of the insert at the notch.

      1. Use PN 3695-4 tang removal tool.

    5. SUBTASK 72-42-11-220-105 Remove the Inserts from the Diffuser Case

      1. Examine the new inserts.

      1. Refer to TASK 72-42-11-200-000 (INSPECTION-000).
