      NOTE

Check for "P5, P10, P15, or P20 near the areas, where the part number is marked on the part. Make sure the supplied seal ring 01-120, 01-122, 01-124, 01-126, or 01-128 is the correct size based on the part marking."
    2. Refer to: Figure

    3. Put the seal ring holder, large diameter up, on the bench.

    4. Move the seal ring holder so that the offset pin (01-100) is at the 12 o'clock position, Figure.

      1. Install the seal ring in the seal groove.

      2. Put the larger diameter of the seal ring at the bottom of the seal groove, Figure.

      3. The seal ring ends must be less than 0.500 in. (12.700 mm) from the right or the left of the bottom vertical centerline of the seal ring holder (opposite the offset pin).

    1. SUBTASK 72-43-20-440-059 Install the Sleeve Spacers (01-160) to the Pins in the Rear Seal Assembly

    2. Refer to: Figure

    3. Install the sleeve spacers (01-160) to the two pins that are almost 90 degrees from both sides of the offset pin.

    1. SUBTASK 72-43-20-440-052 Install the Springs (01-140)

    2. Install the springs (01-140) in the holes in the seal ring holder.

    1. SUBTASK 72-43-20-440-053 Install the No. 4 Bearing Face Seal Assembly (01-180) in to the Seal Ring Holder

    2. Refer to: Figure

    3. Put the face seal assembly above the seal ring holder.

      NOTE

The wide slots will slide over the sleeve spacers.
    4. Align the offset slot with the offset pin and the wide slots with the pins that have the sleeve spacers.

    5. Align the guides (01-200) in the face seal assembly with the springs (01-140) in the seal ring holder.

    6. Lower the face seal assembly and engage the guides in the springs and the pins in the slots.

    1. SUBTASK 72-43-20-440-054 Install the Collars (01-220) and the Cotter Pins (01-100)

    2. Refer to: Figure

    3. Install the collars over the pins.

    4. Align the holes in the collars with the holes in the pins.

      NOTE

Do not bend the cotter pins until the pressure test is complete.
    5. Put the cotter pins through the holes in the collars and the pins.

    1. SUBTASK 72-43-20-440-055 Install the No. 4 Bearing Rear Seal Assembly in to the Fixture

    2. Refer to: Figure

    3. Remove the covers from the IAE 1P16025 Fixture 1 off and make an inspection of the rubber seals and neoprene sealing surfaces.

    4. Remove the sealing plate and make an inspection of the micro finish surface for nicks and scratches.

    5. Install the sealing plate with the six capscrews.

    6. Remove the clamp ring from the fixture.

    7. Carefuly lower the No. 4 bearing rear seal assembly in to the fixture until the face of the seal assembly touches the fixture sealing plate.

    8. Install the clamp ring over the No. 4 bearing rear seal assembly OD.

    9. Attach the clamp ring with the 15 capscrews.

    10. Install the cover on the fixture.

    11. Attach the cover by tightening the lifting clamp on the center post.

      NOTE

The fittings on the fixture and the air flow panel are identified and are different sizes to eliminate the possibility of error.
    12. Connect the hoses from the IAE 6F10029 Air flow test cart 1 off to the two quick disconnect fittings.

    1. SUBTASK 72-43-20-720-051 Do a Check for the Leakage of the No. 4 Bearing Rear Seal Assembly

    2. Refer to: Figure and Figure

      1. Do the air flow check of the oil seal assembly with the procedure in Step or the procedure in Step.

      2. With the air pressure at 80 psi (551.6 kPa) the leakage shall not be more than 4.5 cubic feet (0.13 cubic meters) for each minute of free air when dimension D is 0.952 to 0.982in. (24.18 to 29.94 mm).

      3. With the air pressure at 50 psi (344.7 kPa) the leakage shall not be more than 2.8 cubic feet (0.08 cubic meters) for each minute of free air when dimension D is 0.952 to 0.982in. (24.18 to 29.94 mm).

      4. If leakage exceeds limits do Step and Step.

      1. Remove the assembly, turn the seal plate over and do a check for seal ring leakage.

      2. Relieve the air pressure.

      3. Remove the cover from the fixture.

      4. Remove the capscrews which hold the clamp ring.

      5. Remove the clamp ring.

      6. Remove the No. 4 bearing rear seal assembly.

      7. Remove the capscrews securing the sealing plate.

      8. Remove the sealing plate.

      9. Turn the sealing plate so the rubber seal is up.

      10. Install and attach the sealing plate.

      11. Install the No. 4 bearing rear seal assembly so that the face of the seal touches the sealing plate.

      12. Install the clamp ring.

      13. Install the capscrews which hold the clamp ring.

      14. Attach the cover by tightening the lifting clamp on the center post.

      1. Do a check for leakage of the seal ring.

      2. Apply air pressure at 80 psi (551.6 kPa) and check air flow.

      3. If the seal assembly still leaks, there is leakage past the seal ring.

      4. If leakage is now within limits on the seal ring, the No. 4 bearing face seal assembly is not properly engaged on the seal plate.

    3. Replace or repair the seal ring if there is leakage past the seal ring.

      1. If there is leakage past the face seal proceed as follows.

      2. Remove the No. 4 bearing rear seal assembly from the fixture per Step through Step.

      3. Compress and release the face seal assembly to make sure that it is not set sideways, or so that it cannot move freely.

      4. Remove the face seal from the No. 4 bearing rear seal assembly and lap it, if necessary.

    4. Assemble the No. 4 bearing rear seal assembly per SUBTASK 72-43-20-440-053 and SUBTASK 72-43-20-440-054.
