Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-44-10-040-051 Remove the Stage 1 HPT Seal

    1. WARNING

      WEAR PROTECTIVE CLOTHES TO PREVENT INJURY TO PERSONS WHEN REMOVING THE SEAL.

      CAUTION

      DO NOT USE AN OXYGEN/ACETYLENE TORCH. THE FLAME TEMPERATURE IS TOO HIGH AND CAN CAUSE LOCAL DISTORTION ON THE SEAL.
      DO NOT HEAT THE SEAL IN ONE SPOT. THIS COULD CAUSE DISTORTION TO THE SEAL.

      NOTE

      The stage 1 HPT support assembly must be examined before disassembly.

      Refer to Figure.

    2. Position the stage 1 HPT support assembly on a bench with the center flange down.

    3. Heat the seal symmetrical to expand the seal correctly. Use a Torch.

    4. Heat the seal until you can remove the seal with a pry bar when you use little or no force.

    5. Remove the seal.
