General

This TASK gives the procedure to clean the stage 1 turbine hub assembly. For the other parts of the stage 1 turbine hub, refer to TASK 72-45-11-100-000 (CLEANING-000).

The practices and processes referred to in the procedure by the TASK numbers are in the SPM.

Fig/item numbers in parentheses in the procedure agree with those used in the IPC. Only the primary Fig/item numbers are used. For the service bulletin alpha variants, refer to the IPC.

Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-45-11-110-052-001 Remove the Grease and Oil

      1. Remove the grease and oil. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-11-03-300-503

      2. Degrease parts by aqueous cleaning.

    1. SUBTASK 72-45-11-110-053-001 Remove the Rust, Carbon and Scale

      1. Remove the rust, carbon and scale. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-11-54-300-503

      2. Heavy duty scale removal from a component (stainless steel, cobalt and nickel base material).

    1. SUBTASK 72-45-11-120-052 Remove Heat Scale by one of the Methods that Follow

      1. Remove heat scale. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-12-13-300-503

      2. Wet abrasive grit blast (500 grit aluminium oxide). Abrasive blast is permitted in the blade slot area and any area of the part to remove scale or corrosion that stays after chemical cleaning by the SPM TASK 70-11-54-300-503.

      1. Remove heat scale. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-12-08-300-503

      2. Wet abrasive 200 or 325 grit novaculite blast. Abrasive blast is permitted in the blade slot area and any area of the part to remove scale or corrosion that stays after chemical cleaning by the SPM TASK 70-11-54-300-503.
