Preliminary Requirements

Procedure

1. SUBTASK 72-45-30-040-065 Prepare the Stage 2 Turbine Rotor Assembly for Removal from the Base and Install the Fixture

   1. Refer to Figure and Figure.

   2. Put the ring assembly of the IAE 1P16063 Fixture 1 off on the engine retaining plate and move it behind the airseal.

   3. Push in a hook assembly and turn it to secure the blade leading edge.

   4. Do Step for three additional hook assemblies and install them at 90 degree intervals.

   5. Tighten six wingnut clamps to hold the assembly together.

      NOTE

      The three legs on the back of the fixture are used to permit the assembly to be set down on a work plate.

   6. Do Step for the remaining hook assemblies to hold all the blades in place.

2. SUBTASK 72-45-30-040-066 Install the Fixture to the Stage 2 Turbine Rotor Assembly

   1. Refer to Figure.

   2. Loosen the three hand knobs on the IAE 1P16017 Lift fixture 1 off.

   3. Turn the three hooks toward the center of the fixture.

   4. Lower the fixture in to the rear inner diameter of the rotor.

   5. Turn all the hooks so they touch on the inner diameter recess.

   6. Tighten the three hand knobs.

3. SUBTASK 72-45-30-040-067 Remove the Stage 2 Turbine Rotor Assembly from the Base

   1. Refer to Figure.

   2. Attach a hoist to the fixture.

   3. Lift the stage 2 turbine rotor assembly with the hoist.

   4. Put the stage 2 turbine rotor assembly above the IAE 1P16166 Base plate.

4. SUBTASK 72-45-30-040-068 Install the Stage 2 Turbine Rotor Assembly in the Base Plate

   1. Refer to Figure.

   2. Put the stage 2 turbine hub, front inner diameter bore down on the diameter of the IAE 1P16166 Base plate 1 off.

   3. Remove the IAE 1P16063 Fixture and IAE 1P16017 Lift fixture from the assembly.

5. SUBTASK 72-45-30-040-069 Remove the Stage 2 HPT Blade Assemblies, Seals and Dampers

   1. Refer to Figure.

   2. Lightly hit the stage 2 HPT blade assemblies with a rawhide mallet and remove the blades from the stage 2 turbine hub.

   3. Remove the stage 2 HPT seals and dampers.

6. SUBTASK 72-45-30-040-056-070 Install the Fixture

   1. Install the IAE 1P16017 Lift fixture 1 off. Refer to Step.

7. SUBTASK 72-45-30-040-071 Install the Stage 2 Turbine Rotor Assembly in the Support Base

   1. Refer to Figure.

   2. Attach the hoist to the IAE 1P16017 Lift fixture.

   3. Remove the stage 2 turbine rotor assembly from the base plate.

   4. Put the stage 2 turbine rotor assembly in the IAE 1P16140 Support base 1 off.

   5. Remove the IAE 1P16017 Lift fixture from the stage 2 turbine hub.

8. SUBTASK 72-45-30-040-072 Install the Fixture on to the Stage 2 Turbine Hub

   1. Refer to Figure.

   2. Remove the support detail from the IAE 1P16030 Fixture 1 off or IAE 1P16366 Fixture 1 off.

   3. Remove the clevis and bar assembly from the bottom end of the pilot (flanged end).

   4. Loosen the nuts holding the three clamps in the pilot.

   5. Push the clamps to move the dowel pins from the holes in the pilot.

   6. Turn the clamps to align the clamp feet within the pilot body envelope for installation in the stage 2 turbine rotor assembly. The dowel pin in the threaded end of the clamp is now located at 90 degrees to the arrow in the adjacent pilot face.

   7. Attach a hoist to the fixture.

   8. Lift the fixture with the hoist and then lower the pilot of the fixture into the ID of the stage 2 turbine hub.

   9. Turn the fixture clamps to engage the dowel pins in the pilot holes. The dowel pins in the threaded end of the clamps are now in line with the arrows in the adjacent pilot face.

   10. Tighten the three nuts to lock the clamps in position.

9. SUBTASK 72-45-30-040-073 Install the Stage 2 Turbine Rotor Assembly in to the Heater

   1. Refer to Figure.

   2. Attach a hoist to the bar on the fixture.

   3. Remove the stage 2 turbine rotor assembly from the support base.

   4. Move the stage 2 tubrine rotor assembly above the IAE 1P16039 Heater 1 off.

   5. Lower the stage 2 turbine rotor assembly, small end down, on to the heater.

   6. Put the fixture pilot in to the heater ID.

   7. Turn the stage 2 turbine rotor assembly and align the holes in the heater with the threaded holes in the fixture.

   8. Clamp the fixture to the heater with the fixture capscrews.

   9. Make sure that the thermocouple touches the stage 2 turbine hub.

   10. Connect the power line and the thermocouple fittings to the respective fittings of the IAE 1F10027 Heater control unit 1 off.

   11. Remove the clevis and bar assembly from the pilot in the fixture.

10. SUBTASK 72-45-30-040-074 Remove the Stage 2 HPT Locks and Retainers (Pre SBE 72-0399)

    1. Refer to Figure.

    2. Remove the stage 2 HPT locks and retainers, two each, from the stage 2 turbine hub.

11. SUBTASK 72-45-30-040-096 Remove the Stage 2 HPT Locks and Retainers (SBE 72-0399)

    1. Refer to Figure.

    2. Remove the Stage 2 HPT locks and retainers, four each, from the stage 2 turbine hub.

       1. 

          CAUTION

          WHILE STRAIGHTENING THE RETAINER TAB, EXTREME CARE MUST BE TAKEN TO AVOID DAMAGE TO THE HPT STAGE 2 HUB SLOTS.

          NOTE

          A lint free cloth can be used to protect adjacent surfaces.

          Straighten the retainer tab using a drift and mallet. It is recommended to use a drift made of soft material such as aluminum or brass. Apply gentle force on the mallet to prevent damage to the hub.

       2. Slightly push the straightened retainer tab into the slot to disengage the contact between retainer tab and Stage 2 HPT retaining plate. Refer to Figure.

       3. Gently remove the lock by hand.

          NOTE

          If the retainer is not accessible, you can remove it after removing the retaining plate.

       4. Remove the retainer.

12. SUBTASK 72-45-30-040-075 Install the Fixture on to the Stage 2 Turbine Rotor Assembly

    1. Refer to Figure.

    2. Put the ring (clamp) of the IAE 1P16010 Fixture 1 off, threaded bolt hole up, on the seal flange of the blade retaining plate.

    3. Attach the eight clamps with the capscrews and washers around the ring to capture the blade retaining plate seal flange.

    4. Put the clamps so the side with longer taper contacts the ring (clamp).

    5. Tighten the capscrews to hold the clamps in place.

    6. Install the ring (flanged) over the ring (clamp).

    7. Attach the ring (flanged) with the capscrews and the washers.

    8. Tighten the flange bolts until the gap between the ring (flanged) and the ring (clamp) is removed.

13. SUBTASK 72-45-30-040-076 Remove the Stage 2 HPT Blade Retaining Plate from the Stage 2 Turbine Hub

    NOTE

    Parts may be heated to 300 deg F (149 deg C) maximum to permit disassembly. Minimum temperature differential to be 50 deg F (28 deg C).

    1. Heat the stage 2 turbine hub with the heater.

    2. Chill the stage 2 blade retaining plate with dry ice.

    3. Turn the stage 2 blade retaining plate to the unlock position with the IAE 1P16010 Fixture. Hit the turn lugs lightly with a mallet to turn the fixture.

    4. Remove the stage 2 blade retaining plate and the fixture.

    5. Remove the plate from the fixture.

    6. Remove the stage 1 and 2 HPT seal from the stage 2 blade retaining plate. Discard the seal.

14. SUBTASK 72-45-30-040-077 Remove the Stage 2 Turbine Hub from the Heater and Set it on a Pallet

    1. Refer to Figure and Figure.

    2. Install the bar and clevis on the pilot hole of the IAE 1P16030 Fixture 1 off or IAE 1P16366 Fixture 1 off.

    3. Attach a hoist to the fixture.

    4. Remove the fixture capscrews, Figure.

    5. Lift the hub from the heater with the hoist and the sling.

    6. Attach the lower bar and clevis to the pilot of the fixture (flanged end).

    7. Attach a hoist to the bar.

    8. Turn the stage 2 turbine hub with the hoists so that the large end is down.

    9. Remove the bar and clevis from the lower end.

    10. Lower the stage 2 turbine hub on to a pallet.

    11. Remove the fixture from the stage 2 turbine hub.

15. SUBTASK 72-45-30-040-078 Remove the Stage 2 HPT Metering Plugs and Heat Shield

    1. Refer to Figure.

    2. Remove the stage 2 HPT metering plugs from the inner diameter of the hub.

    3. Remove the stage 2 HPT heat shield.
