Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-23-350-067 General Instructions for the Blend Repair of the Stage 5 Shroud Seal Segment

      1. NOTE

        1. Keep the material removal to the minimum to remove the damage.

        2. Do not blend cracks with this repair.

        Blend the nicks, dents and burrs.

      1. Use files, stones and action swivel vise to blend the shroud seal segments.

      2. Polish the blended areas.

      1. Use fine stones to make the blended surface as smooth as the initial surface. Edges and corners are not permitted.

    2. SUBTASK 72-50-23-350-068 Blend Repair the Stage 5 Shroud Seal Segment

    1. Refer to: Figure

      2. Blend in area A1.

      1. For local blend repair use a length to depth ratio of 5:1 minimum, refer to Figure.

        There is no limit in the number of blends.

        If there is a number of damage marks together, blend the whole area to the depth of 0.010in. (0.25 mm).

        Minimum distance between blends 0.500in. (12.7 mm).

        The surface texture of the blended surfaces must be equal or better than that of the adjacent area.

      3. Blend in area A2.

      1. Remove lifted material only.

    3. SUBTASK 72-50-23-230-080 Examine the Stage 5 Shroud Seal Segment after Blend Repair for Cracks

      1. Do the test for cracks.

      1. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-23-05-230-501.

        No cracks are permitted.

    4. SUBTASK 72-50-23-220-115 Do the Post Repair Inspection

      1. Examine the blended areas dimensionally.

      1. Refer to Figure.

        Measure the dimensions of the blended areas.

        The blend ratio must be in the limits given in Step.

        Use dial caliper, gage set and illuminated comparator magnifier.
