Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-24-350-086 General Instructions for the Blend Repair of the Inner Duct Segment

      1. Blend the nicks, dents or pits of the inner duct segment.

      2. Do the blend repair with the inner duct segment installed to the action swivel vice.

        Use files and stones to remove nicks, dents and pits.

        Keep the removal of the material to the minimum necessary to remove damage.

      1. Polish the blended areas.

      2. Use fine stones to make the blended surface as smooth as the initial surface.

        Edges and corners are not permitted.

      NOTE

      1. Refer to SUBTASK 72-50-24-350-086 before you do the blend repair.

      2. Keep the material removal to the minimum to remove damage.

      3. For local blending the lenght to depth ratio must be a minimum of 5:1, refer to Figure.

      4. Unless stated differently, the number of blends is not limited. If there is a number of damage marks close together, blend the whole area to the specified depth. Minimum distance between blends is 0.500in. (12.7 mm).

      1. Blend repair in area A1.

      2. Maximum permitted depth of blend repair is 0.008in. (0.20 mm).

      2. Dress to remove the raised material only.

      1. Blend repair the honeycomb.

      2. Dress to remove the raised material only.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-24-230-105 Examine the Blend Repaired Area for Cracks

      1. Do the test for cracks.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-23-05-230-501.

        No cracks permitted.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-24-220-185 Examine the Blend Repaired Area Visually and Dimensionally

      1. Examine the surface of the blended area visually.

      2. Use illuminated comparator magnifier.

        The blended surface must be as smooth as the initial surface.

        Edges and corners are not permitted.

      1. Examine the blended areas dimensionally.

      2. Measure the dimensions of the blended areas with dial caliper and external dial caliper.

        Use radius gage set to examine the radius at each blend repaired area.

        Refer to Figure.

      1. Touch-up blended areas of gas washed surfaces.
