Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-32-350-053 General Instructions for the Blend Repair of the Knife Edge Seals of the Stage 7 Turbine Blades

      1. Blend the nicks, dents or cracks on the knife edge seals of the stage 7 turbine blades.

      1. Use files and stones to remove the nicks, dents or cracks.

      2. Polish the blended areas.

      1. Use fine stones to make the blended surface as smooth as the initial surface. Edges and corners are not permitted.

      NOTE

      1. Keep the removal of material to the minimum necessary to remove the damage.

      2. The blend shapes are shown in Figure.

      3. Do not try to make straight bent knife edges.

      4. The total area of blends on each knife edge and on the set of blades must not be more than 0.124 sqin (80 sqmm). The repaired blades must be symmetrically distributed around the circumference.

      1. Blend repair the knife edges.

      1. The maximum permitted depth of the blend repair is 0.040 in. (1.0 mm).

        For the blend ratios, refer to Figure.

    3. SUBTASK 72-50-32-230-057 Examine the Knife Edge Seals of the Stage 7 Turbine Blades for Cracks

      1. Do the test for cracks.

      1. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-23-05-230-501.

        No cracks are permitted.

    4. SUBTASK 72-50-32-220-087 Do the Post Repair Inspection

      1. Examine the surface finish.

      1. Use illuminated comparator magnifier.

        The surface finish of all blended areas must be as good as the adjacent areas.

      2. Examine the blended areas dimensionally.

      1. Measure the dimensions of the blended areas with dial caliper.

        The limits are given in Step.

        Use radius gage set to examine the radius at each blend repaired area.

        Refer to Figure.
