Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-41-330-055 Machine Worn Diameter D1

      NOTE

      If surface has been previously repaired using chromium plate, remove old plating completely.
    2. Refer to: Figure

      1. Grind off damage diameter to 3.6110 to 3.6213 in. (91.720 to 91.982 mm) diameter. Keep material removal to a minimum.

      2. Hold D1 to a maximum value, but any previous coating and damage must be completely removed.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-41-370-053 Stress Relieve the LP Turbine Shaft after Plate Stripping

      1. Heat treat the part for one hour at 374 to 410 deg F (190 to 210 deg C).

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-33-02-300-503.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-41-240-060 Examine the LP Turbine Shaft for Cracks

      1. Magnetic particle examine the ground area.

      2. No cracks permitted.

        Refer to TASK 72-50-41-200-000 (INSPECTION/CHECK).

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-41-330-056 Prepare the LP Turbine Shaft for Plating

      1. Clean the part.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-33-02-300-503.

      1. Mask the all surface except plating area.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-38-24-300-503.

      1. Alkali clean the part.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-33-02-300-503.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-41-330-057 Chromium Plate the LP Turbine Shaft

      CAUTION

      THE SOLUTION TEMPERATURE MUST NOT EXCEED 145 DEG F (65 DEG C).
      1. Immerse the part in a standard chromium plating solution for sufficient time to achieve the diameter 3.63 in. (92.2 mm) minimum.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-33-02-300-503.

      1. Treatment after plating.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-33-02-300-503.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-41-370-054 Bake the LP Turbine Shaft after Plating

    2. Bake the plated part as soon as possible (not later than 16 hours after plating) Hours: 3 hours minimum temperature: 374 to 410 deg F (190 to 210 deg C).

      1. Visually examine the chromium deposit for the following: Pits, visible cracks, burning, excessive built up of corner.

      1. Dimensional check the plated area for diameter 3.63 in. (92.20 mm) minimum.

      2. Refer to TASK 72-50-41-200-000 (INSPECTION/CHECK-000).

    2. Refer to: Figure

      1. Grind the plated area by normal grinding wheel to specified dimensions.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-33-02-300-503.

      1. Visually examine the ground area for pits, cracks.
