Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-320-107 Machine the Oil Jet Mating Diameter

    2. Refer to: Figure

      1. Machine the oil jet mating diameter before nickel plate.

      2. Keep material removal to a miniumum so the plating will be 0.002 to 0.012 in. (0.05 to 0.30 mm) thick after finish machining.

        If the diameter was plated before, you can strip the plating.

        Refer to the SPM TASK 70-33-05-300-503.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-230-094 Examine the Turbine Exhaust Case

      1. Fluorescent penetrant inspect the surface to be plated.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-23-02-230-501.

        No cracks are permitted.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-330-070 Nickel Plate the Oil Jet Mating Diameter

    2. Refer to: Figure

      1. Apply a mask to the areas not to be plated.

      1. Nickel plate the diameter.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-33-06-300-501.

        Apply the plating to a sufficient thickness to permit finish machining.

        NOTE

        Plating outside the designated area is permitted but must be removed.
    3. Remove the mask.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-110-111 Clean the Turbine Exhaust Case

      1. Clean and dry the case.

      2. Flush the case with cold water, then flush with hot water.

        Dry with air blast.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-370-077 Bake the Turbine Exhaust Case after Nickel Plate

      1. Bake after nickel plate.

      2. Bake at 360 to 390 deg F (182 to 199 deg C) for three hours.

        Do this process as soon as possible in less than one hour after plating.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-320-108 Machine the Oil Jet Mating Diameter after Nickel Plate

    2. Refer to: Figure

      1. Finish machine the diamter after nickel plate.

      2. Machine the diameter to 0.538 to 0.542 in. (13.66 to 13.77 mm).

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-220-205 Examine the Repair

      1. Visually examine the plated area for cracks and plating that is not attached to the base metal.

      2. Use a 4X or greater magnifying glass.
