This repair must be done when the instruction to do is given in TASK 72-58-01-200-003-B00 (INSPECTION/CHECK-003, CONFIG-002). Use stop drill, patch weld, a spot weld procedure as specified in the inspection document.

Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-58-01-350-053 Stop Drill the Damaged Surfaces

      1. Drill stop holes at the ends of cracks.

      1. Use a drill of dia. 0.0059in. (1.5 mm).

    2. SUBTASK 72-58-01-350-054 Weld Patch the Damaged Surfaces (Dents and Cracks)

    1. Refer to: Figure

    2. Machine the damaged surfaces to remove rough edges or distorted areas around damage.

      3. Mechanically remove oxides within 0.25in. (6.35 mm) of hole.

      1. Use a silicon carbide abrasive or equivalent.

      4. Fabricate a patch 0.125in. (3.175 mm) larger than the area to be patched.

      1. Patches may be cut from discarded parts of the same P/N.

        Patches may be fabricated from AMS5510M sheet stock of the same thickness.

    5. Tack weld completely around the patch approximately 0.031in. (0.79 mm) from the edge, with a space of 0.031in. (0.79 mm) between tacks.

    3. SUBTASK 72-58-01-350-055 Spot Weld Detached

    1. Tack weld the detached tacks.

    4. SUBTASK 72-58-01-220-060 Inspect the Repaired Areas

      1. Inspect the repaired areas.

      1. Refer to Inspection/Check-003 TASK 72-58-01-200-003-B00 (INSPECTION/CHECK-003, CONFIG-002).
