TASK 72-60-10-040-001 Main Gearbox Assembly - Disassemble The Main Gearbox Assembly, Disassembly-001

General

Fig/item numbers in parentheses in the procedure agree with those used in the IPC. Only the primary Fig/item numbers are used. For the service bulletin alpha variants refer to the IPC.

Apply the approved CoMat 10-058 PENETRATING OIL before the removal of threaded parts and parts with an interference fit. Let the parts soak before removal.

Discard all rubber seal rings, cotter pins and seal washers removed in this procedure.

Remove and discard the lockwire before any part is disconnected or removed.

Transportation covers/blanks must be installed immediately after the removal of the components.

Refer to TASK 72-60-00-030-001 to install the main gearbox on the build stand, if necessary.

The components of each drive assembly must be correctly identified and kept together in a protective container.

In this TASK it can be necessary to refer from one illustration to other illustrations. If this is necessary, the illustrations are identified by the 4th and 5th element numbers only.

To identify the consumable materials refer to the PCI.

NOTE

Special tools are identified in the procedure by the tool primary number.

Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-10-040-051 Remove the Crank Cover

    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. Remove the two nuts and washers which attach the crank cover to the gearbox casing.

    4. Remove the crank cover from the gearbox casing.

    5. Remove and discard the packing.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-10-040-052 Remove the PMA Gear Drive Assembly

    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. Remove the nuts which attach the PMA drive gear to the PMA drive housing and to the gearbox casing.

    4. Remove the bracket.

    5. Remove the PMA drive gear from the PMA drive housing.

    6. Remove and discard the two packings.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-10-040-053 Remove the Deoiler Casing (Pre SBE 79-0087, Pre SBE 79-0088, SBE 79-0087 and SBE 79-0088)

      SBE 79-0087: Oil - Scavenge oil tubes - Re-route of No.4 bearing scavenge tube

      SBE 79-0088: Oil - Scavenge oil tubes - Re-route of No.4 bearing scavenge tube

    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. Remove the three bolts and washers which attach the air port casing to the deoiler casing. Remove the air port casing and discard the packing. Use IAE 1F10067 Puller 1 off.

    4. Pre SBE 79-0087 or Pre SBE 79-0088: Remove the seven nuts and five washers which attach the deoiler casing to the gearbox casing. Remove the bracket Main Gearbox Assembly (72-60-10, 01-456).

    5. SBE 79-0087 or SBE 79-0088: Remove the seven nuts and four washers which attach the deoiler casing to the gearbox casing. Remove the bracket Main Gearbox Assembly (72-60-10, 01-457).

    6. Remove the deoiler casing from the gearbox casing and discard the two packings.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-10-040-054 Remove the Deoiler Gear and Impeller

    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. Remove the mating ring from the deoiler gear and discard the packing. Use IAE 1F10069 Puller.

    4. Remove the two screws which attach the deoiler housing to the gearbox casing.

    5. Install three disassembly screws in to the inserts of the housing flange. Operate to disconnect the deoiler housing. Remove the disassembly screws.

    6. Remove the deoiler housing and the deoiler gear and impeller from the gearbox casing. Remove and discard the packing.

    7. Remove the three nuts which attach the outer race of the rear roller bearing to the gearbox casing.

    8. Remove the outer race from the gearbox casing. Use IAE 1F10158 Puller.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-10-040-055 Remove the IDG Housing

    2. Refer to Figure and Figure.

    3. Remove the eight bolts and washers which attach the cover to the IDG housing. Remove the cover.

    4. Remove the nut, the retaining ring and the shaft plug from the end of the IDG drive gear.

    5. Remove the three screws and washers which attach the seal housing to the IDG housing.

    6. Install IAE 1F10010 Puller 1 off on the seal housing. Remove the seal housing and discard the packing.

    7. Install IAE 1F10009 Puller on the mating ring. Remove the mating ring and discard the packing.

    8. Remove the two screws which attach the IDG housing to the gearbox casing.

    9. Install three disassembly screws in to the inserts of the housing flange. Operate to disconnect the IDG housing. Remove the disassembly screws.

    10. Remove the IDG housing from the gearbox casing and from the IDG drive gear. Remove and discard the packings.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-10-040-056 Remove the Starter Drive Housing

    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. Remove the three bolts and washers which attach the seal housing to the starter drive housing.

    4. Install IAE 1F10008 Puller on the seal housing. Remove the seal housing and discard the packing.

    5. Install IAE 1F10007 Puller on the mating ring. Remove the mating ring and discard the packing.

    6. Remove the eight bolts which attach the starter drive housing to the gearbox casing.

    7. Install three disassembly screws in to the inserts of the housing flange. Operate to disconnect the starter drive housing. Remove the disassembly screws.

    8. Remove the starter drive housing from the gearbox casing and from the starter drive gear. Remove and discard the packing.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-10-040-057 Remove the IDG Drive Gear and the Starter Drive Gear

    2. Refer to Figure, Figure and Figure.

    3. Remove the IDG drive gear from the remaining outer race of the front roller bearing attached in the gearbox casing. Move the starter drive gear to make the removal easier.

    4. Remove the three nuts which attach the outer race of the front roller bearing in the gearbox casing.

    5. Remove the outer race from the gearbox casing. Use IAE 1F10158 Puller.

    6. Remove the starter drive gear from the remaining outer race of the rear roller bearing attached to the gearbox casing.

    7. Remove the three nuts which attach the outer race of the rear roller bearing and the shroud to the gearbox casing.

    8. Remove the shroud and the outer race from the gearbox casing. Use the IAE 1F10158 Puller.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-10-040-058 Remove the Angle Gearbox Support

    2. Refer to Figure and Figure.

    3. Remove the transportation plug, if installed, from the strainer suction.

    4. Remove the nut which attach the strainer suction to the angle gearbox support.

    5. Remove the strainer suction from the seat on the angle gearbox support. Discard the three packings.

    6. Remove the nuts, the bolt, and the washers which attach the angle gearbox support to the gearbox casing. Remove the three brackets.

    7. Install three disassembly screws in to the inserts on the flange of the angle gearbox support. Operate to disconnect the angle gearbox support. Remove the disassembly screws.

    8. Carefully remove the angle gearbox support from the gearbox casing and from the roller bearings of the oil scavenge pump drive gear and the starter idler gear. Remove the packings.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-10-040-059 Remove the Starter Idler Gear

    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. Remove the starter idler gear from the remaining outer race of the front roller bearing attached in the gearbox casing.

    4. Remove the three nuts which attach the outer race of the front roller bearing in the gearbox casing.

    5. Remove the outer race from the gearbox casing. Use IAE 1F10158 Puller.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-10-040-060 Remove the Layshaft Extension Gear

    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. Remove the two nuts and washers. Remove the PMA housing with the outer race of the front roller bearing from the gearbox casing. Use IAE 1F10365 Puller. Remove and discard the packing.

    4. Remove the gearshaft from the outer race of the rear roller bearing installed in the gearbox casing.

    5. Release and remove the three bolts and keywashers which attach the outer race of the rear roller bearing in the gearbox casing. Discard the keywashers.

    6. Remove the outer race from the gearbox casing. Use IAE 1F10159 Puller.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-10-040-061 Remove the Oil Scavenge Pump Drive Gear

    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. Remove the oil scavenge pump drive gear from the remaining outer race of the front roller bearing attached in the gearbox casing.

    4. Remove the three nuts which attach the outer race of the front roller bearing in the gearbox casing.

    5. Remove the outer race from the gearbox casing. Use IAE 1F10158 Puller.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-10-040-062 Remove the Fuel Pump Drive Gear

    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. Remove the three bolts which attach the seal housing to the housing.

    4. Install IAE 1F10008 Puller on the seal housing. Remove the seal housing and discard the packing.

    5. Install IAE 1F10007 Puller on the mating ring. Remove the mating ring and discard the packing.

    6. Remove the two screws which attach the housing to the gearbox casing.

    7. Install three disassembly screws in to the inserts of the housing flange. Operate to disconnect the housing. Remove the disassembly screws.

    8. Remove the housing and the fuel pump drive gear from the remaining outer race of the front roller bearing attached in the gearbox casing.

    9. Remove the three nuts which attach the outer race of the front roller bearing in the gearbox casing.

    10. Remove the outer race from the gearbox casing. Use IAE 1F10158 Puller.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-10-040-063 Remove the Hydraulic Pump Drive Gear

    2. Refer to Figure and Figure.

    3. Remove the four nuts and washers which attach the cover to the hydraulic pump housing. Remove the cover.

    4. Remove the plug, the retaining ring and the shaft plug from the end of the hydraulic pump gear drive.

    5. Remove the three bolts and washers which attach the seal housing to the hydraulic pump housing.

    6. Install IAE 1F10008 Puller on the seal housing. Remove the seal housing and discard the packing.

    7. Install IAE 1F10007 Puller on the mating ring. Remove the mating ring and discard the packing.

    8. Remove the two bolts which attach the hydraulic pump housing to the gearbox casing.

    9. Install three disassembly screws in to the inserts of the housing flange. Operate to disconnect the hydraulic pump housing. Remove the disassembly screws.

    10. Remove the hydraulic pump housing from the gearbox casing and from the hydraulic pump drive gear. Remove and discard the packings.

    11. Remove the three nuts which attach the shroud and the outer race of the roller bearing in the gearbox casing.

    12. Remove the hydraulic pump drive gear and the shroud from the remaining outer race of the roller bearing attached in the gearbox casing.

    13. Remove the outer race from the gearbox casing. Use IAE 1F10158 Puller.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-10-040-064 Remove the Oil Nozzles from the Rear Side of the Main Gearbox

    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. Remove the nut and the washer which attach the oil nozzle to the gearbox casing. Remove the oil nozzle from the seal below the mounting flange of the fuel pump. Remove and discard the packings.

    4. Remove the nut and the washer which attach the oil nozzle to the gearbox casing. Remove the oil nozzle from the seat below the mounting flange of the integrated drive generator system. Remove and discard the packings.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-10-040-065 Remove the Oil Nozzles from the Front Left-hand Side of the Main Gearbox

    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. Remove the nut and the washer which attach the oil nozzle to the gearbox casing. Remove the oil nozzle from the seat adjacent to the mounting flange of the deoiler casing. Remove and discard the packings.

    4. Remove the nut and the washer which attach the oil nozzle to the gearbox casing. Remove the oil nozzle from the seat above the mounting flange of the starter drive. Remove and discard the packings.

    5. Remove the nut and the washer which attach the oil nozzle to the gearbox casing. Remove the oil nozzle from the seat above the mounting flange of the PMA housing. Remove and discard the packings.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-10-040-066 Remove the Oil Nozzles from the Front Right-hand Side of the Main Gearbox

    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. Remove the nut and the washer which attach the oil nozzle to the gearbox casing. Remove the oil nozzle from the seat below the mounting flange of the PMA housing. Remove and discard the packings.

    4. Remove the nut and the washer which attach the oil nozzle to the gearbox casing. Remove the oil nozzle from the seat on the left hand of the mounting flange of the hydraulic pump. Use IAE 1F10364 Puller. Remove and discard the packings.

    5. Remove the nut and the washer which attach the oil nozzle to the gearbox casing. Remove the oil nozzle from the seat adjacent to the mounting flange of the oil pressure pump. Remove and discard the packings.
