Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-21-320-134 Machine the Bore of the PMA Oil Tube in the Gearbox Casing

    2. Refer to Figure and Figure.

      1. Machine the oil tube bore.

      2. The diameter must be between 0.9830 in. to 0.9842 in. (24.97 mm to 25.00 mm) after removal of the damage.

      3. Deleted.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-21-220-166 Examine the Gearbox Casing

      1. Inspect the gearbox casing for cracks in the area of the bore.

      2. Use a magnifying glass.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-21-330-119 Apply the Chromate Conversion Coating

      1. Apply the chromate conversion coating to the machined surfaces.

      2. Refer to SPM TASK 70-38-02-300-503.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-21-350-154 Install the Bushing

    2. Refer to Figure and Figure.

      1. CAUTION

MAKE SURE THAT THE LEAD IN CHAMFER OF THE BUSHING POINTS AWAY FROM THE DRIFT.

        Make a repair bushing.

      2. Refer to Figure for details and dimensions.

      1. WARNING

DO NOT TOUCH THE HOT PARTS WITHOUT PROTECTIVE GLOVES.

        WARNING

HOT PARTS CAN CAUSE REDDENING AND BLISTERING OF THE SKIN IF THE HANDS ARE NOT PROTECTED.

        WARNING

IMMERSE THE CONTACTED AREA IN COLD WATER FOR 10 MINUTES IF THE SKIN IS BURNED. IMMEDIATELY GET THE MEDICAL ATTENTION IF PAIN OR BLISTERING PERSISTS.

Increase the temperature of the gearbox casing and/or decrease the temperature of the bushing.

      2. Use an oven and/or freezer.

      3. Do not increase the temperature of the casing above 284 deg F (140 deg C).

      4. Do not decrease the temperature of the bushing below -58 deg F (-50 deg C).

        NOTE

The difference in temperature between the parts must be 216 deg F (120 deg C).
      1. Remove the gearbox casing from the oven and/or bushing from the freezer.

      2. Use protective gloves.

      1. CAUTION

INSTALL BUSHING IN MACHINED BORE IMMEDIATELY AFTER REMOVAL FROM FREEZER, OTHERWISE BUSHING CANNOT BE CORRECTLY INSTALLED.

Install the bushing into the machined bore.

      2. Use an arbor press.

      3. Give sufficient back-up to support at bushing bore area, to prevent casing distortion when you install the bushing.

    3. Let the parts get the ambient temperature.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-21-320-135 Machine the Inner Diameter of the Bushing

    2. Refer to Figure and Figure.

      1. Machine the inner diameter of the bushing.

      2. The dimension must be between 0.82814 in. to 0.8321 in. (21.035 mm to 21.135 mm).

      3. Chamfer where necessary.

      4. Deleted.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-21-330-120 Apply the Chromate Conversion Coating

      1. Apply the chromate conversion coating to the machined surfaces of the bushing.

      2. Refer to SPM TASK 70-38-02-300-503.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-21-350-155 Identify the Repair
