Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-23-320-063 Machine the Hydraulic Pump Mating Surface of the Hydraulic Pump Housing

    2. Refer to: Figure

      1. Machine the mating surface.

      2. The dimension must be 0.7232 to 0.7205 in. (18.370 to 18.300 mm) after the removal of the damage. Remove all damage and wear. Keep the removal of material to the minimum necessary, to remove the damage.

      1. Do the fluorescent penetrant inspection for cracks.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-23-01-230-501.

        Cracks are not permitted.

        Use penetrant crack test equipment.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-23-330-058 Nickel Plate the Hydraulic Pump Mating Surface of the Hydraulic Pump Housing

    2. Refer to: Figure

      1. Mask the areas of the housing not to be plated.

      1. Do the nickel plating.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-33-08-300-503. Plate to a sufficient thickness to permit machining to the last dimensions. The plating out of the closed area is permitted, but must be removed.

    3. Remove the mask.

      1. Clean and dry the housing.

      2. Flush with cold water. Flush with hot water. Dry with air blast.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-23-370-061 De-embrittle the Hydraulic Pump Housing

      1. Put the housing into an oven at 266 to 302 deg F (130 to 150 deg C) for 12 hours.

      2. Do this process as soon as possible, in less than 4 hours, after the plating.

      1. Visually examine the plating for finish, cracks and adhesion.

      2. Plating must have a constant color. No circumferential cracks are permitted. Rough and blistered areas are not permitted.

      1. Machine the mating surface.

      2. The dimension must be 0.7323 to 0.7244 in. (18.600 to 18.400 mm), in relation to surface B. Clean up the edges of the groove. Chamfer where necessary. Use grinding machine.

      1. Visually examine the plated area for cracks and adhesion.

      2. Use a 4x magnifying glass. The natural network crack, emphasized by grinding, is permitted.

      1. Measure the thickness of the plating.

      2. Do not accept a thickness of less than 0.0006 in. (0.015 mm), after the last machining.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-23-350-065 Record the Repair

      1. Vibro-engrave VRS5037 adjacent to the part number.

      2. Remove the metal lifted by marking.

        Use vibro-engraving equipment.
