Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-23-320-071 Machine the Seal Housing Bore in the Hydraulic Pump Housing

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Machine the seal housing bore.

      2. The diameter must be 2.8331 in. to 2.8346 in. (71.960 mm to 72.000 mm), after the removal of the damage, in relation to surface A and diameter B.

      3. Deleted.

      1. Blend the drain holes, if necessary.

      2. Blend the sharp edges around the three drain holes.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-23-220-090 Examine the Hydraulic Pump Housing

      1. Inspect the housing for cracks, in the area of the bore.

      2. Use a 5x magnifying glass.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-23-330-063 Apply the Chromate Conversion Coating

      1. Apply the chromate conversion coating to the machined surfaces.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-38-02-300-503.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-23-350-072 Install the Bushing in the Hydraulic Pump Housing

      WARNING

      DO NOT TOUCH THE HOT PARTS WITHOUT PROTECTIVE GLOVES.
      HOT PARTS CAN CAUSE REDDENING AND BLISTERING OF THE SKIN IF THE HANDS ARE NOT PROTECTED.
      IMMERSE THE CONTACTED AREA IN COLD WATER FOR 10 MINUTES IF THE SKIN IS BURNED. IMMEDIATELY GET MEDICAL ATTENTION IF PAIN OR BLISTERING PERSISTS.

      CAUTION

      INSTALL BUSHING IN MACHINED BORE IMMEDIATELY AFTER REMOVAL FROM FREEZER, OTHERWISE BUSHING CANNOT BE CORRECTLY INSTALLED.
    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. CAUTION

      MAKE SURE THAT THE LEAD IN CHAMFER OF THE BUSHING POINTS AWAY FROM THE DRIFT.

      Install the bushing on the IAE 3F10336 Drift, bushing (dia 67) 1 off.

      1. Increase the temperature of the housing and/or decrease the temperature of the assembled drift and bushing.

        NOTE

        The difference in temperature between the parts must be 216 deg F (120 deg C).
        1. Use an oven and/or a freezer.

        2. Do not increase the temperature of the housing above 284 deg F (140 deg C). Do not decrease the temperature of the assembled drift and bushing below -58 deg F (-50 deg C).

    4. Remove the housing from the oven and/or the assembled drift and bushing from the freezer.

    5. Install the bushing into machined bore.

      1. Use IAE 3F10336 Drift, bushing (dia 67) drift and an arbor press.

      2. Give sufficient back-up support at bushing bore area, to prevent housing distortion, when you install the bushing.

    6. Allow the parts to reach ambient temperature.

    7. Remove the drift.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-23-320-072 Machine the Inner Diameter of the Bushing

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Machine the inner diameter of the housing.

      2. The dimension must be 2.6791 in. to 2.6831 in. (68.050 mm to 68.150 mm), in relation to surface A and diameter B. Chamfer where necessary.

      3. Deleted.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-23-330-064 Apply the Chromate Conversion Coating

      1. Apply the chromate conversion coating to the machined surface of the bushing.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-38-02-300-503.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-23-350-073 Record the Repair

      1. Vibro-engrave VRS5041 adjacent to the part number.

      2. Remove the metal lifted by marking.

      3. Use vibro-engraving equipment.
