    1. SUBTASK 72-60-28-350-078 Remove the Threaded Inserts

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Remove the threaded insert and the lock ring.

      2. Refer to Repair VRS5060, TASK 72-60-28-300-007.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-28-320-079 Machine the Seal Housing Seat of the IDG Housing

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Machine the seal housing seat.

      2. The diameter must be between 3.3843 in. to 3.3858 in. (85.96 mm to 86.00 mm).

      3. Remove all damage and wear.

      4. Keep the removal of material to the minimum necessary to remove the damage.

      5. Deleted.

      1. Machine the seal housing mating surface.

      2. The dimensions must be between 1.189 in. to 1.185 in. (30.20 mm to 30.10 mm) after the removal of the damage in relation to surface D.

      3. Remove all damage and wear.

      4. Keep the removal of material to the minimum necessary to remove the damage.

      5. Deleted.

      1. Inspect the housing for cracks in the area of the bore.

      2. Use a 5X magnifying glass.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-28-330-068 Apply the Chromate Conversion Coating

      1. Apply the chromate conversion coating to the machined surfaces.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-38-02-300-503.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-28-350-079 Install the Bushing

      1. Install the guide pins.

      2. Put IAE 3F10427 Guide pin threaded guide pin in threaded hole in seal housing mating surface adjacent to machine seat.

    3. Install the bushing on the IAE 3F10338 Drift.

      1. WARNING

        DO NOT TOUCH THE HOT PARTS WITHOUT PROTECTIVE GLOVES.
        HOT PARTS CAN CAUSE REDDENING AND BLISTERING OF THE SKIN IF THE HANDS ARE NOT PROTECTED.
        IMMERSE THE CONTACTED AREA IN COLD WATER FOR 10 MINUTES IF THE SKIN IS BURNED. IMMEDIATELY GET MEDICAL ATTENTION IF PAIN OR BLISTERING PERSISTS.

        Increase the temperature of the housing and/or decrease the temperature of the assembled drift and bushing.

      2. Use an oven and/or a freezer.

      3. Do not increase the temperature of the housing above 284 deg F (140 deg C).

      4. Do not decrease the temperature of the assembled drift and bushing below -58 deg F (-50 deg C).

      5. Use protective gloves.

        NOTE

        The difference in temperature between the parts must be 216 deg F (120 deg C).
    4. Remove the housing from the oven and/or the assembled drift and bushing from the freezer.

      1. CAUTION

        INSTALL BUSHING IN MACHINED BORE IMMEDIATELY AFTER REMOVAL FROM FREEZER, OTHERWISE BUSHING CANNOT BE CORRECTLY INSTALLED.

        Install the bushing into machined seat.

      2. Use IAE 3F10338 Drift 1 off and an arbor press.

      3. Give sufficient back-up support at bushing bore area to prevent housing distortion when you install the bushing.

    5. Allow the parts to reach ambient temperature.

    6. Remove the drift and the guide pins.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-28-320-081 Machine the Inner Diameter of the Bushing

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Machine the inner diameter of the bushing.

      2. The dimensions must be 3.230 in. to 3.234 in. (82.05 mm to 82.15 mm).

      3. Chamfer where necessary.
