This TASK gives the procedure to repair the HP compressor stage 7 air seal assembly.

The practices and processes referred to in the procedure by the TASK number are in the SPM.

NOTE

Equivalent materials or equipment can be used.
More equipment and materials necessary to do this repair are given in SPM TASK 70-23-01-230-501 or SPM TASK 70-23-03-230-501.
To identify the consumable materials refer to the PCI.

Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 75-32-52-230-059-001 Do a Crack Test

      1. Do a penetrant crack test.

      1. Refer to SPM TASK 70-23-01-230-501.

      2. No cracks are permitted.

    2. SUBTASK 75-32-52-230-059-002 Do a Crack Test

      1. Do a penetrant crack test.

      1. Refer to SPM TASK 70-23-03-230-501.

      2. No cracks are permitted.

    3. SUBTASK 75-32-52-350-063 Remove the Damage

    1. CAUTION

      TITANIUM COMPONENT
      YOU MUST USE SILICON CARBIDE TYPE STONES AND ABRASIVE PAPERS TO DRESS, BLEND AND POLISH THIS TITANIUM COMPONENT.
      DO NOT USE FORCE WITH MECHANICAL CUTTERS OR THE MATERIAL WILL BECOME TOO HOT.
      IF THE MATERIAL SHOWS A CHANGE IN COLOR TO DARKER THAN A LIGHT STRAW COLOR, THE COMPONENT IS TO BE REJECTED.

      Refer to Figure.

      2. Remove the damage.

      2. The maximum depth to remove the damage must not be more than 0.005 in. (0.13 mm).

      3. Refer to SPM TASK 70-23-03-230-501.

      3. Make the damaged area smooth.

      1. Make sure the area is made smooth into the adjacent material. The diameter of the repaired are to be 50 times the depth.

      2. Remove all the sharp edges and sudden changes of the slope.

      4. Polish the area.

      2. Polish the repaired area and the area made smooth. Make sure all the scratches are removed and the surface finish is the same as the adjacent.

    4. SUBTASK 75-32-52-220-069 Examine the Repair

    1. Refer to Figure.

      2. Do a visual and dimensional inspection.

      1. Make sure all the repaired areas have an equivalent surface finish as the adjacent material.

      2. Make sure the maximum depth of the repaired area is not more than 0.005 in. (0.13 mm).

    5. SUBTASK 75-32-52-110-058 Swab Etch

      1. Chemically clean

      1. Refer to SPM TASK 70-11-08-300-503.

      2. SUBTASK 70-11-08-300-01.

      3. Use chemical cleaning equipment.

      2. Swab etch the repair areas.

      1. Refer to SPM TASK 70-11-08-300-503.

      2. SUBTASK 70-11-08-300-02.

      3. Use chemical cleaning equipment.

    6. SUBTASK 75-32-52-280-001 Binocular Examine

      1. Binocular examine the repair areas.

      1. Use X10 binoculars.

      2. No surface defects permitted.

      3. No raised metal permitted.

    7. SUBTASK 75-32-52-230-060-001 Do a Crack Test

      1. Do a penetrant crack test on the repaired area.

      1. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-23-01-230-501.

      2. No cracks are permitted.

    8. SUBTASK 75-32-52-230-060-002 Do a Crack Test

      1. Do a penetrant crack test on the repaired area.

      1. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-23-03-230-501.
