  1. TASK 79-11-41-990-501 Oil Tank - Related Parts - Description And Operation Of The Oil Tank

    1. Description

The oil tank, refer to Figure is a component of the gearbox module on the V2500 engine. It is attached to the left side of the external gearbox at the 7 o'clock position on the fan case. The purpose of the oil tank is the storage of the oil supply. The oil tank includes:

Filler neck with a cap which is used when the tank is filled by hand.

Union adapter for the connection with the oil spill tube.

      Internal deaerator.

Prismalite oil tank level indicator, or a sight glass level indicator.

      Overfill warning plate.

      Remote fill and overflow ports.

Mounting boss for a quantity transmitter.

    2. Operation

The oil is available to be pressurized and sent to the engine and external gearbox. All the scavenged oil is sent back to the tank to keep the oil level up during engine operations.

The tank is pressurized to make sure that there is sufficient pressure at the inlet of the oil pump.

The tank can be filled by hand through the filler neck or with a pressure system. The capacity of the oil tank is 25 US QTS.

There are two ways to check the level of oil in the tank. The first is with a prismalite indicator on the tank which shows 'OK' when the oil tank is full or with a sight glass level indicator. The other is with an indicator in the cabin connected to a transmitter probe.
