Refer to Figure.
Use Removal tool.
Lower over the shank, and starting motor.
Cut off the stud if too long for Removal tool.
Keep sufficient shank length to give pilot for the Removal tool over the shank and starting motor.
Install the Removal tool in the drill press chuck.
Lift the tool frequently to permit the cutting teeth to be clear from chips.
It is not necessary to mill fully through the lock ring.
Start the motor and mill the lock ring to remove serration interlock.
SUBTASK 79-21-41-320-051 Mill the Lock Ring
Use Wrench.
Continuous pressure of withdrawn stud should cause lock ring to be forced out from its location.
Break with a punch and remove the remaining portion of lock ring if it has been milled fully through and it does not lift out with the stud.
Apply removal torque to the stud.
Complete the removal of the stud.

Refer to Figure.
Machine the diameter to 0.449 to 0.459 in. (11.404 to 11.659 mm).
The depth must be 0.122 to 0.137 in. (3.10 to 3.48 mm).
Machine the oversized diameter of the lock ring seat.

Cracks are not permitted.
NOTE
Do this subtask only if you have machnined the oversized diameter.Do a local fluorescent penetrant test for cracks in the machined area.

Apply the anodic treatment to the machine oversized diameter of the lock ring seat.

Refer to Figure.
Lubricate the coarse threaded stud end.
Use Wrench.
The depth must be 0.010 to 0.020 in. (0.254 to 0.508 mm).
Stud must be perpendicular to flat surface of relevant flange within 0.014 in. (0.35 mm) each 4 in. (101.60 mm).
Install the stud in the hole.

Refer to Figure.
Align the external serrations of the new lock ring with those in parent material of the housing.
Install the new lock ring.
Use Drive Tool. The depth must be 0.005 to 0.010 in. (0.127 to 0.254 mm).
Install the new lock ring.

Do the touch up process if the anodic treatment has been damaged by stud installation.
Refer to SPM TASK 70-38-02-300-503.
Check the surface.
