Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 79-21-41-320-062 Machine the Piloting Diameter of the Casing Assembly

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Machine the piloting diameter.

      2. Remove all damage and wear.

      3. The piloting diameter must be between 5.0358 and 5.030 in. (127.910 and 127.76 mm) after the removal of the damage.

      4. Keep the removal of the material to the minimum necessary, to remove the damage.

    1. SUBTASK 79-21-41-230-058 Examine the Casing Assembly

      1. Do the fluorescent penetrant inspection for cracks.

      2. Refer to SPM TASK 70-23-01-230-501.

      3. No cracks are permitted.

    1. SUBTASK 79-21-41-330-062 Nickel Plate the Piloting Diameter of the Casing Assembly

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Mask the areas of the casing assembly not to be plated.

      1. Do the nickel plating.

      2. Refer to SPM TASK 70-33-08-300-503.

      3. Plate to a sufficient thickness to permit machining to the last dimensions indicated in the reference figure.

      4. The plating out of the piloting diameter area is permitted, but must be removed.

    3. Remove the mask.

      1. Clean and dry the casing assembly.

      2. Flush with cold water.

      3. Flush with hot water.

      4. Dry with air blast.

    1. SUBTASK 79-21-41-370-054 De-embrittle the Casing Assembly

      1. Put the casing assembly into an oven at 241 to 260 deg F (116 to 127 deg C) for 60 to 90 minutes.

      2. Do this procedure as soon as possible, in less than 4 hours, after plating.

    1. SUBTASK 79-21-41-220-159 Examine the Casing Assembly

      1. Do the visual inspection of the plating for finish, cracks and adhesion.

      2. Plating must have a constant color.

      3. No circumferential cracks are permitted.

      4. No rough or blistering are permitted.

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Machine the piloting diameter.

      2. Machine the piloting diameter, the dimension must be between 5.0378 to 5.0362 in. (127.966 to 127.920 mm).

      3. Chamfer, where necessary.

      1. Do the visual inspection of the plated area for cracks and adhesion.

      2. The natural network crack, emphasized by grinding is permitted.

      1. Measure the thickness of the plating.

      2. Do not accept a thickness of less than 0.0006 in. (0.015 mm), after the last machining.

      1. Vibro engrave VRS5326 adjacent to the part number.

      2. Remove the metal lifted by marking.
