Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 79-44-43-320-055 Machine the Mounting Face of the Cover

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Machine the mounting face.

      2. Remove all damage and wear.

      3. The pre-plating dimension must be between 0.1400 and 0.1486 in. (3.555 and 3.775 mm) after the removal of the damage.

      4. Keep the removal of the material to the minimum necessary to remove the damage.

    1. SUBTASK 79-22-43-230-057 Examine the Cover

      1. Do the fluorescent penetrant inspection for cracks.

      2. Refer to SPM TASK 70-23-01-230-501.

      3. Cracks are not permitted.

    1. SUBTASK 79-22-43-330-062 Nickel Plate the Mounting Face of the Cover

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Apply masking to the areas of the cover not to be plated.

      1. Do the nickel plating.

      2. Refer to SPM TASK 70-33-08-300-503.

      3. Plate to a sufficient thickness to permit machining to the last dimensions indicated in the reference figure.

      4. Plating external to the piloting diameter area is permitted, but must be removed.

    3. Remove the mask.

      1. Clean and dry the cover.

      2. Flush with cold water.

      3. Flush with hot water.

      4. Dry with an air blast.

    1. SUBTASK 79-22-43-370-052 De-embrittle the Cover

      1. Put the cover into an Oven at 241 to 260 deg F (116 to 127 deg C) for 60 to 90 minutes.

      2. Do this procedure as soon as possible, in less than 4 hours, after plating.

    1. SUBTASK 79-22-43-220-080 Examine the Cover

      1. Do a visual inspection of the plating for finish, cracks and adhesion.

      2. Plating must have a constant color.

      3. No circumferential cracks are permitted.

      4. No roughness or blistering is permitted.

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Machine the mounting face.

      2. The dimension must be between 0.1368 to 0.1387 in. (3.475 to 3.525 mm). Chamfer, where necessary.

    1. SUBTASK 79-22-43-220-081 Examine the Nickel Plated Area

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Do a visual inspection of the plated area for cracks and adhesion.

      2. Use a Magnifying glass 4x. The natural network crack, shown by grinding is permitted.

      1. Measure the thickness of the plating.

      2. A thickness of less than 0.0006 in. (0.015 mm), after the last machining is not permitted.

    1. SUBTASK 79-22-43-350-062 Record the Repair

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Vibro-engrave VRS5240 adjacent to the part number.

      2. Use a Vibrating marking pencil. Remove the metal lifted by marking.
