  1. APPENDIX 6 - EFFECTIVITY CODE

    1. General

The Effect. Column in this IPD gives guidance in determining effectivity (by which is meant the interchangeability/usage of parts) where additional parts are introduced to, or existing effective parts are deleted from, an engine by a Service Bulletin or a Repair Scheme.

Where additional parts are introduced to, or existing effective parts are deleted from, an engine by a Service Bulletin or Repair Scheme, this IPD must only be used as a guide in determining effectivity and used in conjunction with the appropriate Service Bulletin or Repair Scheme, as the relevant Service Bulletin or Repair Scheme is definitive for the purposes of determining the effectivity of parts.

The effectivity of a part in this IPD is identified by a two letter code entered in the Effect. Column.

      The Code shows:

      Interchangeability

Relationship of parts at a specified item number

      Usage

Relationship of all parts within the figure

      1. Interchangeability

Interchangeability is shown in three ways, Not interchangeable, One way interchangeable, and two way interchangeable.

        1. Not interchangeable

Parts not interchangeable are recognized by a code in the Effectivity Column equal to a code given in the titles at the beginning of the figure. The title incorporates the Service Bulletin number in the Part number column where interchangeability is affected and produces a personal code in the Effectivity Column. This code, coupled together with the same code against an Item number shows the Service Bulletin standard(s) at which it must be used.

        2. One way interchangeable (New part can be used in place of the old part only)

Parts which are one way interchangeable carry the code equal to it's SB standard and the code of the part it superseded. The superseded part will not carry the code of the part it has been superseded by.

        3. Two way interchangeable (new part can be used in place of the old part and the old part can be used in place of the new)

Parts which are two way interchangeable will have the same code.

      2. Usage

The parts contained in a figure that can be used together for a given Service Bulletin Standard are determined by selecting parts as identified by the same code.

        NOTE

Where no guidance on effectivity is provided in this IPD, the Effect. Column will contain ***** instead of a two letter code. Operators should refer to the appropriate definitive document.
The following examples illustrate the application of the above effectivity coding system to an IPD figure and how it is affected by the introduction of Service Bulletins.
